Terminator-UNR

Terminator

It's clear Terminator beared influence on MGS. Coincidentally T2 is my favorite childhood movie and seems to dabble with NBGO Gray Fox theories, so I will share (T1&2 only, for obvious reasons)!

  • The starting parallel I would point out is the concept of an AI (Skynet, former Cyberdyne) taking over the world or destroying it through nuclear annihilation (Sci-fi-Ragnarok).

Translates to the Patriots AI, although Terminator didn't include thematic similarities to 1984 or Matrix-like simulations. Still, the means and goal are relatable.

  • The second is the protagonist John Connor and his role in causality in saving the world of said annihilation, despite and thanks to time travel technology.

Translates to Solid Snake fulfilling the same role. We got a big happy ending (for the world) in MGS4. Although time travel hasn't been of influence.. or has it?

These and other hints suggest our effort in playing each title with each characters possesses them and in turn, makes them immortal ("you died, continue?"), granting them the power to fulfill predestination paradoxes. Raiden and Frank Jaeger seem to have a desire for it. Now for this concept to exist we are to have a reference point in the future, what happened, already happened, so this merely showcases the road to the *best/intended timeline.

  • Thirdly, lastly, a reprogrammed robot aiding man in this scenario.

Without going too deep into GF narrative, being used to create a genetically modified army of supersoldiers to the point of insanity, despite having been programmed to kill Solid, he ends up helping him as far as to sacrifice his own life for it. His reasoning for this has always come over as a mystery. Could it be he has precognitive knowledge over predestination paradoxes, and he's trying to meet them?

Let's see if the parallels applies the other way, as well:

  • The Terminator 1984: Kyle Reese, a soldier under command of John Connor is sent back in time to protect John Connors mother (Sarah Connor), so she can fulfill the predestination paradox of birthing John Connor. Kyle Reese (depicted as Solid Snake on the MG1 boxart who kills MG1 Big Boss), ends up killing said bad robot. The remnants (an arm) spawned Cyberdyne advanced technology research.

Leading to the events of T2.

  • Where, Sarah is branded insane for having second-hand knowledge of the future (hey, that's us!), and more importantly, the same robot is back, REPROGRAMMED BY HUMANITY, to ensure Johns safety from the other Terminator model. Sacrificing itself in the end doing so.

The parallels aren't 1:1, this is not a direct copy, this is simply an observation on Venom being Gray Fox being hinted at in 1987 and Terminator oddly fitting the same "hero"-character in a story that follows a coincidentally similar blueprint. While.. highlighting the relevance of changing pasts to prevent futures in a time-travelling universe.

And with Norman Reedus' latest words being the game leaving us with choices, (which thematically relates to T2:Judgement Day), people expecting judgement day, implies a possibly strong connection.

So that's it. Quickly threw this together so I'm sure I missed some stuff. Now some random stuff:
