With The Walking Dead now heading into its eighth season, one can't help but wonder if Lincoln might be thinking about life after the show.

A Walking Dead without Rick Grimes? Could that actually exist? Lincoln thinks so.

The creator of The Walking Dead comic, Robert Kirkman says, "I think it could," when asked about the show continuing without its star.

"Everyone just looks up to him and he's a huge part of this show. But we have a very strong ensemble, and there's a lot of characters that could carry the show. The Walking Dead is a story very much about a world and a bunch of people inhabiting that world." However, Kirkman adds, "I don't think we have to worry about that any time soon."

"We lose terrific actors and terrific characters because that's part of the narrative," says Gimple, "And we're always forced to go on and figure out a way to make the narrative work and to make it the best show possible after losing people. So I don't think any show is more prepared, sadly, to lose people than The Walking Dead is. As the show goes on and on and on, who knows? But I'm also certain that we will do it in a way that only adds to the narrative and only makes the story richer for losing these incredible people."

I googled around a bit after seeing it to see if I was the only one, and found a few threads here, and a few articles elsewhere. and for the sake of me just now getting there, I thought I'd open this can again.

Tara is heavier than she should be. yes, I get that the actress had a baby, and she's nursing. cool. more power to her. But she's also an actress. she's not reading a book on tape, a large part of her job is her appearance. There's no beating around that bush. She was hired, in part, because of how she looks. and she looks drastically different. If norman reedus got a haircut, and refused to wear a wig, we would say something about it, because it would be wrong. if lincoln got breast implants and didn't hide them, I think we would say something about it. yes, its normal to gain weight during a pregnancy, as is getting a haircut, as is having a different gender identity, but that's not ok to bring to an established role, and to expect people to be quiet about it is presumptuous and dumb. If she needed more time for nursing, then they should have written her out for a longer period of time. she was already written out to have the child, so extending that for a few more months would have worked out just fine. Or, if the role is THAT important, plenty of actresses have lost some or all of their baby weight in less time than that.

I'm not trying to be insensitive to her needs as a new mother. because that should come first, 100%. but to take that expectation and expect the same sensitivity in her job, which is partially based on her physical appearance, thats ridiculous. it ruined the whole episode for me, because she was not the same character anymore, and I couldn't stop focusing on it.

IJW: Blade II (2002)-UNR

“It fixes a lot of things from the first film, but it messes up some others.”

So the reason I started a Blade marathon was because the second film, the one that I’m reviewing today, was directed by Guillermo del Toro. For those who don’t know I’ve been going through and watching all of Guillermo del Toro’s films over the past little while, and Blade II was one that was missing from my list. Having never seen Blade II I didn’t really know what to expect, and it turns out that my mistake was thinking of this film as a Guillermo del Toro film instead of a Blade sequel. With that in mind this review isn’t going to touch much on where this fits into other Guillermo del Toro films, it’s more so going to talk abut what worked and didn’t work. So Blade II is the sequel to the 1998 film Blade, and it picks up roughly two years after the first film ends. This time Blade, the half vampire/half human vampire hunter, will have to team up with the creatures he despises most to defeat a common enemy.

So the first thing I noticed about Blade II was, much like Evil Dead 2, it kind of threw continuity to the wind. The filmmakers wanted to tell a story, and they didn’t give a shit if that story fit into the already existing canon or not. Of course I’m talking bout the inclusion of Whistler in Blade II. Why he is alive isn’t really explained, what happened to him isn’t really explained, but the writer knew that he wanted Whistler in the movie so there he is. This is the first tip-off as to what I was getting myself into with Blade II. Blade, while entertaining, took itself pretty seriously and most of its faults related to that. Blade II on the other hand had a lot more fun with the idea of a vampire hunter. It didn’t go completely off the deep end into absurdity, but it did dip its toes in the water more than a few times. Something I liked about Blade II was that it leaned more into the horror aspect of the universe as well. The first Blade was pretty much an action movie, but Blade II in comparison has a lot more horror elements added into it. This worked very well because it saved the film from feeling stale at a few key moments, but it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows unfortunately. One thing that this horror inclusion impacted were the fight scenes in Blade II. The story of Blade II revolves around a group of vampires led by blade that are hunting the carriers of a vampire-killing virus. This is a cool plot, but unfortunately what this turns into throughout a lot of the film is a zombie movie. You have this group of characters who are fighting hordes of generic enemies in an almost war-of-attrition style of combat. They grow weak, they exhaust every opportunity they have, and they look around wondering how they are still being overrun. It’s a brilliant way to shoot a zombie film, but Blade isn’t a zombie film. The first film had its share of “faceless hordes” in terms of bad guys, but at least that film would show Blade using a variety of moves and gadgets to kill them in awesome ways. Blade II just kind of defaults to the ‘horror’ side of things for every instance of combat, and it loses a lot of the flavour that the first film had. Not all fights were like this, there were a few instances with the good old fashioned Blade fights that we know and love (both the guard fight and the final showdown), but in large the one part I loved about this franchise seemed kind of neutered in this sequel.

One thing that this added horror element changed for the better were the designs in the film. The first Blade was cool to look at, but for the most part it didn’t delve into the ‘monster’ side of vampires. Once again, it tried to ground itself in reality even though the story was pretty outlandish. Blade II remedies this and pulls a lot of design inspiration from the classic interpretations of vampires. Not only are the ‘vampire elders’ not just a bunch of stuffy dudes in suits anymore, but it’s now this weird green dude who looks like Dracula. The infected enemies, though kind of generic in nature, each resembled a creature similar to Nosferatu. These designs were not only great to look at, but they proved that Blade hasn’t forgotten its roots. Paying homage to these sold franchises was not only a nice gesture, but a classic case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. What made these designs even better in my eyes was the fact that the effects in Blade II were consistently surprising to me. Released in 2002, arguably in the peak of the “shit CGI” era, Blade II manages to deliver digital effects that are at worst “alright”. The effects, specifically a lot of the really close-up effects like the enemies’ mouths splitting open, still hold up so well that I wouldn’t have been surprised if you told me they were recently remastered. One thing that was almost a problem effects-wise was the use of “rubber men” for a lot of the action scenes. This is a problem that most would recognize from things like The Matrix where, instead of using actors flying around fighting each other, it is decided to use a completely CGI character and then attempt to seamlessly edit them into the film. I say that this is almost a problem because although it was noticeable in Blade II, I found the direction of the film to hide a lot of those crimes. And that goes for quite a few of the effects as well. The camerawork in Blade II not only made a lot of scenes feel more cinematic, but they were shot in such a way that it hid a lot of the telltale signs of poor CGI. This shows a brilliant understanding from the director about what does and doesn’t work in terms of CGI. But easily the worst part of Blade II were the performances. Blade II brings a lot of new people on board including Ron Perlman, Norman Reedus, Donnie Yen and others, but the prevailing commonality between them all is that they all gave fucking awful performances. I’m not sure what led to this, but there isn’t one performance in this film that isn’t fucking terrible. They are all campy and flat, and I don’t understand how anybody though it was okay. Sure Blade II isn’t an important film, but at least try a little. The worst offender in this regard is easily Leonor Varela who played Nyssa in the film. Her performances are so fucking flat that I was afraid she might slip through a crack in the floor. I understand that Blade II isn’t the be-all-end-all for your career, and maybe it’s not where you thought you’d end up when you dreamed of being an actor, but at least give it a shot, yeah? And singling her out isn’t a personal attack, it’s just because her performance was the one that made me realize everything around me had turned to shit.

Overall Blade II is a pretty solid sequel to a pretty cool movie. It fixes a lot of things from the first film, but it messes up some others. One thing that surprised me when watching Blade II were how well the effects held up. Blade II is a great movie to watch if you want to laugh bit and see some cool monsters, but if you are looking for a good story and passable performances I would look elsewhere.

I give Blade II a B

Death Stranding will feature similarities with 'survival horror' games and even some new elements that transforms the game into something new, we never saw before.

So what is survival horror ?

Survival horror is a subgenre of video games inspired by horror fiction that focuses on survival of the character as the game tries to frighten players with either horror graphics or scary ambience. Although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games through limited ammunition, health, speed and vision, or through various obstructions of the player's interaction with the game mechanics.

Famous survival horror games: Evil Within, Alone In the Dark, Last of Us, Dead Space, Resident Evil, Silent Hill etc.

Kojima probably scouted Iceland for Silent Hills. Death Stranding used the amazing songs of Iceland band (Low Roar) for the teasers and Reynisfjara Beach as location.

In October 2014, Hideo Kojima and Shinji Mikami (The Evil Within) talked about the future of horror games in an interview. They are very good friends with Shinji Mikami and Kojima established clear understanding how games make players feel very uncomfortable at psychological level. Highlights from the interview points out the direction Death Stranding has taken.

Looking at current survival horror games as entertainment, I feel they lean too heavily on action." Mikami said in an interview with Weekly Famitsu together with Kojima. "I thought that I wanted to make a game that would stand up on both the fear as horror and on the enjoyment as a game.

With the hardware specs we have now, it's possible to put a whole lot of information into the background, so creators have a tendency to develop a 'gap-phobia.'" Mikami added. "But if there's too much information, even if the atmosphere is scary, you don't know where to focus on. A single chair sitting in a white room can often be scarier.

For P.T. I decided against using a ruin as the stage and had it take place instead in a simple hallway. That way, I didn't have to worry about the cultural background of the player. I wanted people to experience the fear of not being able to escape in a world where there was almost no information on the screen.

Like you can see Death Stranding teasers features subtle nuances argued in the interview and its gently giving us the hints to make us feel disturbed 'already'. If you think about the concept of survival horror - comparing to Mads, Norman is butt-naked. Comparing to Norman, skeleton soldiers are already dead :D We can't kill them. Del Toro doesn't even have a gun and they have an army, tank and planes.

Less related to the blade, more to the leather handle (and maybe a forge question)-UNR

I am currently in the process of working with my Dad on making the knife, as best as we can, that Daryl Dixon uses in the Season 7 Finale. (There's a great profile shot as he sticks it right in Dwight's face) I haven't seen any pictures of him wearing it in the previews for next season, but the crazy thing about Norman Reedus on this show, you hand him a Busse Team Gemini bowie knife, or a Horton crossbow, then replace that with a Stryker, now a PSE Fang... the cost of that item friggin skyrockets until they can't keep it in stock anymore. His character is a geek merch machine.

Anyway, the blade my dad is largely helping me with... the guard I'm making out of Sculpy clay, then I'm going to use the packed sand method to create either a copper or bronze guard. That leaves the handle, which appears to be a custom (the whole thing is custom) leather handle using light brown, brown, and some sort of dark red with a brown tint... and I think just the natural tooling leather.

So here's my question... my dad says a leather handle requires something hard and thick (heh, that's what she said) like tooling leather, but the prices on dyes are, together, currently cost prohibitive. So I was going to wait a while... then I saw this listing on eBay. It pretty much has all the colors I'm thinking of using, and even if its thinner than the specific tooling leather width I was planning for (between 3.2 and 3.6mm), there's a hundred pieces... even if they were .08" thick, the handle is only 5 1/3" long (I know, odd size... the main part of the knife is 4.5", with a 3/4 inch cap covering the nut) it's only going to require around 67 pieces. (I know I'm probably better off just doing one solid piece... I want something that will help pack down the leather... plus if you examine the knife, it's entirely possible they took the same direction... I could do something like hollow out part of the handle and store some survival stuff in it)

Anyway, I am just curious what you guys think about using this kind of leather instead of tooling leather for the handle? At its thickest it is 1.75"x1.25", maybe even 1.5", so there's plenty of material there. I did send a request for the thickness size to the seller, but I guess he won't be back till Monday night. The listing will end before that but it says more than 10 available, he'll probably just relist it. But this would be a far easier price to swallow than all those dyes... (ironically the leather isn't so bad)

Now my other question, and I don't know if we'll have an option... we don't have our forge built yet. Our plan is to use one of the leaf springs from a '37 Chevy and just heat it with a propane torch and bend it straight as we go. Then we'll use my CAD drawing (or the prototype I'm building out of Balsa) to mark where to cut, and use a plasma torch to cut out the shape... then basically just use the grinder to smooth it out and sharpen it.

I guess my forge question is again about thickness... the thickness of the leaf spring is 1/4". Now the total length from point to tang is 11 1/2", height is 1 1/2" (I'm limited by the leaf spring, I could go higher but I'd have to use another, thicker leaf spring) Now I've got this other bowie knife, it's really just this generic piece of crap that I'm not even sure why I bought... but the total thickness on that is 3/16", and the length from tip to tang is 15". Is that mean the knife I'm making is going to look even weirder than it already is? Again, we don't have a forge, but we both want to build one... I'm almost curious if there might be a jury-rigged system I haven't read about yet. My dad is an auto-body mechanic and works at home so we've probably already got most of the tools... I've been looking at everything, trying to think of what we could use for months now...

Here's my (probably) very unpopular theory on why JDM was cast as Negan and why they didn't kill Daryl-UNR

I believe Norman Reedus showed JDM to the producers and convinced them to cast him as Negan, and as a favour to Reedus the producers decided not to kill him off but rather have them acting together, which is why Daryl was captured by Negan.

Initially I believe they had a vision for Negan's casting as someone like Jon Hamm or Patrick Warburton but got convinced that JDM should do it.

Don't get me wrong tho, I love JDM as Negan and I think he's absolutely killing the role.

Source Highlights from the interview:

Many of your images have an unnerving, almost macabre element to them. What attracts you to dark subjects ?

...In acting, I’ve always said that I like seeing the contrast. I like it when angels stab you in the back, and devils break down in tears...

...A lot of times, maybe because of the way I look, I’m cast as a murderer or somebody with a troubled past. Finding the good qualities about those characters is more interesting than playing a one-note bad guy...

Looking through your book, a few motifs jumped out at me – masks in particular. What do they symbolise to you?

... There’s just something about them. I think it’s weird that if you look in the mirror you see one version of yourself. Then if someone looks at you dead on, they see a different version of you. I’m also interested in the way you carry yourself behind a mask. I’ve always liked horror films...

We are hungry for new information about Death Stranding and we still have few months for a new trailer. Kojima is very quiet nowadays and he retweeted this article. Our luck is Norman talks about acting for question about his photographs. All the information and data are indirect, so take it with a grain of salt - I don't think the interviewer or Norman was intentionally teasing Death Stranding but I do think what Norman said also applies to previous and maybe even his current project (with Kojima). As Kojima once said: I wanted to show a different side of Norman than we're used to seeing in Walking Dead...Most people only know him as Daryl from 'The Walking Dead'.

So how to interpret/process this information regarding the interview and previous statement ?

In Walking Dead, Norman is very nice, emotional, loyal, brave and caregiving character. In PT even if it was a teaser, he was casted for a character that murdered his entire family. I think in Death Stranding Norman will have a similar character with darker personality (like in Dark Harbour or Cigarette Burns instead of Heroic Daryl Dixon) and just like he said we will find the good qualities about his character and it is more interesting than playing a one-note bad guy.

Stretching the statements

As for how he talks about 'masks' and how Kojima told him 'they will be you'; in my opinion we will be the mask for an evil protagonist or rather replacement. Maybe thats why Mads is a character rather than a villain because just like all the protagonist we controlled so far, Mads was fighting with the evil character and this time we are the evil character.

Kojima start hiring actors because advancing technology allows characters to perform movie quality acting performance. I'm expecting to see very edgy, emotional game with lots of twists. I'm so hyped for what next trailer could bring to the table.

[RATE] Videography Rate: Lady Gaga vs. Katy Perry vs. Rihanna-UNR

A month ago, /u/doctorwhowhenhowwhy suggested a brand new, revolutionary take on our now year long rate tradition, analyze and rate the videographies of some of our favorite artists. Today, that dream becomes a reality, and together we will take a new look at how we rate songs and their accompanying visuals! Before we get into it, lets lay down a few ground rules!

  1. This rate is based on the visuals accompanying these songs. That means we are rating the visual, not the song alone, so make sure you are focused on the looks and not the sound when rating! (We will have some questions to ask yourself down below!)

  2. We will be enforcing a minimum average for a videography in an effort to keep the possibility of rigged averages at a minimum. We will not be disclosing this publicly so as not to encourage users to hit this minimum, instead, keep an open mind and have fun!

  3. Make sure you rate EVERY video of the original 16 video roster! If you would like to participate in the extra video rate, make sure you rate all 15 of those videos as well!

Lady Gaga, a master singer songwriter with credits writing amazing bops such as Just Dance, Bad Romance, and Mah mah mah puh puh puh Perfect Illusion. With 5 eras filled with memorable top 10 hits, and her fair share of #1s (Bad Romance could never), it is not fair to NOT bring up Stefani Germanotta’s historic and iconic videography.

Gaga made her music video debut with her massive debut hit, Just Dance. She channeled David Bowie’s character, Ziggy Stardust in her outfits, (an amazing, unknown at the time, call to her future tribute to him at the Grammys). The video itself feels like a standard party video, where teens are turning up, and having fun, and to be honest, the song is a bit like that. The biggest carry over is this strange nagging about Gaga’s persona and appearance. Something about her felt, different. She wasn’t just this party girl, there was something special there.

And oh is that true.

Gaga went on to create some of the most iconic music videos of the century, with unforgettable visuals to her songs LoveGame, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Judas, Applause, The ARTPOP Film, and many more. Gaga has never taken a single and tried to just do the bare minimum, and unfortunately you can’t say that about many other artists. She has so obviously put her heart and soul into her work from her early work to her current projects.

A couple of interesting facts to ponder as well:

  • Gaga has been the sole director for two videos, the ARTPOP film, as well as Marry the Night. She was a co-director for Judas and Million Reasons
  • Gaga has featured co-stars in her videos ranging from The Walking Dead star, Norman Reedus, to Real Housewives star, Lisa Vanderpump
  • Gaga has infamously been linked to her supposed Telephone pt. 2 video that has never made it to light. She has become a subject of a meme to her fans, often aggressively pushing for the release of the sequel to the popular Beyoncé collaboration, and a resolved story line for the two.

I think it's safe to say that Katy Perry is pretty much a mixed bag here on /r/popheads. There are times when most of the community really like what Katy does and there are other times where most of the community hates it.

As a stan of Katheryn, I can understand why (sort of). But if there is one element that I think is underappreciated by the community here is her lavish videography.

Her colorful, eye candy aesthetic that were present in most of her music videos are one of the key elements that made Katy Perry a huge successful pop-girl of the early 2010s.

Her music videos during her 'One of the Boys' era are more low-key compared to her older ones but those videos introduced Katy Perry as a tongue-in-cheek popstar to the world.

Then there's the Teenage Dream era, where she had the most unforgettable music videos on her videography, from the colorful, fun music videos like 'California Gurls' and 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)' to her more low-key, melodramatic music videos like 'Teenage Dream' and 'The One That Got Away'.

On the PRISM era, she managed to stay away from the bubblegum Teenage Dream aesthetic while still keeping the colorful, playful parts of her personality into her music videos in this particular era. 'Roar' and 'Dark Horse' are currently her most-watched music videos, with Roar and Dark Horse earning 2.21 billion and 2.06 billion views respectively as well as being the tenth and fifteenth most-viewed videos of all-time on YouTube.

Even though Witness has received mixed reactions and did not capture the same success that her previous era had, there's no denying that Katy can still deliver a stunning music video. With its retro-futuristic, timely music video of 'Chained to the Rhythm' to the dark yet luring body-horror, cannibalistic video of 'Bon Appetit'.

She has been nominated twenty nine times and has won five Moonmans on the years Katy has been nominated on the MTV Video Music Awards, including this year where she hosted this year's show.

While some of her music may not match up to the standards of her peers, she certainly knows how to pull off a great music video that is easily on the same levels of 'iconic-ness' as her peers.

Although she's most known for not even bothering to make music videos for her songs nowadays, Rihanna has one of the best and most diverse video catalogues in memory. With 31 top ten singles across twelve years, we've watched Rihanna grow right in front of our TV screens (whenever her videos weren't censored). In Pon de Replay, the first of her 52 music videos, she's a cutesy little 17 year old girl who just wants to dance, but in Loyalty, the latest one, she's a man killing, fur wearing, sexy gangster. Who would've thought?

Throughout her videography, RiRi has displayed a little something I'm also known for - versatiliy. She has done sexy (S&M), disturbing (Russian Roulette), sad and vulnerable (Stay), unforgettable (Only Girl) and downright gorgeous (Te Amo, Diamonds) videos. If the song isn't hers, her parts in the video are probably the most memorable ones (Princess of China). Even when she's just a wax figure, the video is good - just watch Famous!

Most of you guys know how the rules work but please read carefully cause we have made some changes!

  • Watch EVERY music video in this rate. If you wish to participate in the bonus music videos rate, you must watch EVERY video of it too.
  • Assign a music video from a scale of 1 to 10 to your liking. Only .0 and .5 decimal scores are allowed. Double digit decimal scores are not allowed.
  • We will be enforcing a minimum average for this rate. That means that if your average for any given artist is below a certain threshold, we won't accept your scores and you'll have to resend them if we ask to. We also reserve the right to reject your scores and ask you to resubmit if we think you're intentionally trying to sabotage the results and not just rating videos based on how well you like them. You're allowed to dislike an artist, but let's not get too Stan Twitter-y about it. We also reserve the right to reject your scores if you're giving straight 10s. You're allowed to be a generous scorer but again, let's not get obnoxious about it.
  • Use [the prepared link]() to send in your scores. We'll be using the rate program made by /u/letsallpoo. We'll still accept your scores if it's not submitted in our preferred format but we reserve the right to publicly shame you during the rate reveal. We would prefer if you send your scores on our private test subreddit /r/wailordoc, which is already linked in our pre-formatted message. However, you can still PM your scores individually to either /u/DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy or /u/wailordfan but this is already inconvenient for us!
  • You may (and are encouraged to!) include comments with your scores. To include a comment, just write it directly after your score, like this:

  • You may (and are also encouraged to!) include comments for particular artist' videographies. Feel free to write assays for these. To include a comment, add a colon and write it directly on the album line, like this:

The Process of Rating

Maybe you hit the bottom of this thread and you are trying to figure out how we are supposed to rate these videos if we aren't supposed to be overly biased by the songs? Well, fear not, we thought of that, and have 5 aspects to look at when rating!

  1. Editing (Were the transitions clean, did the lip sync work, etc.)

  2. Set/Background Design

  3. Cinematography (How were camera angles/movement/positioning used?)

  4. Acting/persona portrayed by artist(s) in the video

  5. Themes (How were the themes of the song represented here? Was anything missing or was too much shown?)

Also, just for fun, we wanted to include a few more bonus questions for you guys to answer to get a feel for /r/popheads' gut feelings on the videos, so if you want to add these to your ballot, feel free to!

  1. Which music video do you think will win?

  2. In this rate, who do you think has the best videography?
