Are Silent Hills and Zone of The Enders 2 part of the Metal Gear universe?-UNR

https://ift.tt/RHW3w58

I've noticed Z.o.e 2 boxes and posters in MGS2 for over two decades and always assumed it's just Easter eggs due to it being a game Kojima produced and was released around the same time. I remember, from all the Easter eggs renting it back in the day (back when rentals were a thing) kinda enjoying it, but only really remember floating around over a city.

Seen it on sale recently and went to look on YouTube to see what's been said about it and stumbled across a video that lay claim apparently there are those within the fanbase who believe it's actually set within the metal gear universe, way into the future.

After seeing that I continue with my annual metal gear marathon and again begin to notice posters of it again, one as a background on the computers in the nomad and others in Hal's room at Shadow Moses , covering up the previous Policenaughts picture.

Found it strange, and how similar the suit of the character in the poster is to what Raiden became.

So wanted to get some thoughts on this and any videos/links to info on this topic.

Secondly though, is also discovering the Operation Intrude N313 tape at the end of the Phantom Pain is a data cassette that contains the MSX murder mystery game Portopia.

Strangely enough someone posted about Silent Hills recently with how much of an undercover cop/detective Norman Reedus seemed at the end of the P.T demo, and I'd agree to that.

Perhaps just chasing shadows but it's a very specific choice to have that data at the ending of the game, about a murder mystery, with a cancelled title that also seemed to be about a mysterious murder, one whose strange radio transmissions can be heard within the levels of TPP.

Has anyone ever spoke about this? It seems just too pivitol a moment in the game, the finale of the game, the series and kojima working there to just randomly without any real reason leave an Easter egg to a game he likes.

Considering how meticulous he is with the details, and how much this plays a role in his games, I'd have to assume there is some reason and purpose behind it.

Does anyone have any thoughts, has anything come to light over the past 8 years? What are your theories? What can be debunked outright

DEATH STRANDING Porter Spotlight - Vincent Hult - June 23-UNR

https://ift.tt/RHW3w58

We’re almost halfway through 2023, which means we’re halfway through our #DSPorterSpotlight series! Over the last 6 months, we’ve celebrated some of the biggest DEATH STRANDING fans in the community and the response from other Porters has been wonderful. Thank you all so much for being the positive forces that you are!

In our latest article, we had a chat with Vincent Hult, an incredibly talented artist who caught our attention thanks to their stunning DEATH STRANDING character illustrations. Enjoy!

INTERVIEW WITH VINCENT HULT

Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us. Your DEATH STRANDING illustrations are fantastic! Could you tell us a bit about yourself and what makes you a DEATH STRANDING super fan?

I’m Vincent, freelance illustrator and obsessive fan-artist when the mood strikes me. I’ve been living inside the DEATH STRANDING universe for the better part of 6 months now, being a bit of a newcomer to the game. At the time when I decided to start playing DEATH STRANDING, I was in the middle of rewatching The Walking Dead in anticipation of the spinoff series with Daryl Dixon. With Daryl being my favorite, I saw Norman Reedus as the main character and thought “might as well check it out” after it was distributed for free for a short time on Epic Games. DEATH STRANDING was my very first Hideo Kojima game, so I had no idea what to expect.

I made the mistake in the past of trying to figure out the game through the trailer alone. Upon playing, the universe started making sense to me despite its extremely intricate themes at times. I particularly enjoyed the science behind it, how things logically worked with the BT’s and BB pods, which brings me to how I eventually discovered my favorite character.

https://preview.redd.it/xbmf3ksogz8b1.png?width=1778&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=11c4a4967caef2c156272bb4ce1e258677145414

Do you have a favourite character to illustrate from DEATH STRANDING? (And what makes them so special to draw?)

I took my sweet time with DEATH STRANDING, not making it to chapter 8 until about 70 hours in. That’s where the character Heartman was introduced. I have a historic habit of latching onto very specific characters that I feel speaks to me, and this one had an incredibly potent presence. So it’s no UCA government secret that Heartman is my favorite. His hyper-logical approach to the Death Stranding and theories behind how things work really spoke to me, along with his comically tragic personality. The voice actor for the English version, Darren Jacobs, really cemented the character’s personality for me in a unique way that made me both laugh and cry within the same scene. As someone who is also a two-time survivor of open heart surgery, Heartman’s weakened heart was a little cherry on top for me as well that I could somewhat relate to even if his condition is mostly fictional. I wanted to explore the character as deeply as possible, not only through art but also dabbling in some cosplay at home.

https://preview.redd.it/aplus4nqgz8b1.png?width=1719&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=f4ed0d4921b5fe090d41c1372a6f54cc63e6775e

Can you give us a bit of an insight into how you go about creating your illustrations?

In a day I can knock out anywhere from 1-10 doodles, sometimes more. First I try to find out their defining facial traits. I had a lot of fun deconstructing Heartman’s face down to linework in the simplest form, mixing and matching proportions through art to see when it starts looking like how the character makes me feel when I view him. Sometimes it’s a strenuous process since I struggle with a lot of motor coordination in my everyday life, which makes my passions harder to fully satiate, but I’m also stubborn so I refuse to quit.

My favorite subject to draw when it comes to Heartman, is “downtime” often sprinkled with humor and interactions with other characters from Bridges. I’d love to watch Heartman attempt to mow a lawn or make dinner before his scheduled demise. When it comes to pure exploration of the shapes of the character, I enjoy drawing him from the side-angles mostly. Drawing him made me discover Heartman's model, Nicolas Winding Refn, who was unknown to me previously. Heartman is more or less a collaboration of different people to create one character through various performances, being voice acting and motion capture. Upon researching Nicolas, I’m pretty sure they managed to sneak his essence into the character here and there through specific ways only fans from each side are able to recognize, like discovering a jar of candy hidden away in the back of your shelf.

https://preview.redd.it/9lg1x68ugz8b1.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=4922f9d0097ad65063ad5afc58dc9622f8680a60

How influential has social media been in getting your work noticed by the community?

I reside mostly on Twitter nowadays where connecting with anyone is relatively easier then other platforms as of right now. It’s always exciting for me to randomly check my phone to see someone who I admire having noticed my art in any way. Makes me just as exhilarated, every single time. I hope it’ll remain easy for people to connect with others like this in the future as well. It’s no secret that social media has had an impact on artists like me. I’m glad the people behind DEATH STRANDING take such good care of their fans & community.

Do you have any advice for new Porters who might be about to play DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT for the first time?

If you’re curious about playing DEATH STRANDING for the first time, I'd absolutely go for the DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT version. It’s a unique experience that’ll challenge you in various ways, be it gameplay style or the lore of the universe itself. It’ll rattle your brain if you let it do its thing. This game took me on an intensely emotional journey that will stick with me for a very long time.

Explosives in The Walking Dead are weird imo. (SPOILERS)-UNR

https://ift.tt/8JTya0E

What did rick shoot on the bridge in S9?

it was clearly dynamite but did they just have a wagon full of dynamite?

like... why-

I take it they would have no issue obtaining it bc of Mr. Smartypants (aka Eugene), but is there a specific reason they had a wagon of explosives when they were building a bridge.

ik stupid question but the explosives always weirded me out in TWD.

And where did Daryl get a rpg with seemingly limitless ammo? I was under the impression that the ammo for rpgs expire. And dont get me wrong, Norman Reedus blowing shit up is always really entertaining.

Anyway, id like to hear your thoughts on this.

[DISCUSSION] No spoilers please! Discussion of the upcoming Daryl Dixon show-UNR

https://ift.tt/8JTya0E

We've all read that when Melissa McBride learned that the upcoming Carol and Daryl spinoff series was to be set in Europe, she bowed out. This was/is crushing news. However, I just read an article in which both she and Norman Reedus stated that this is not the end for Carol, further developments down the road may enable her to return.

But here's my real question. It has always been true in film and television, long before the modern technology of CGI and special effects existed, let alone generative AI, that TV shows and movies are filmed in locations that are convenient and affordable, and made to seem as if the setting and events are taking place in some foreign setting. So now, with all the technology at their disposal, why is it necessary for this TWD spinoff to actually be filmed in Europe, instead of somewhere in the USA which is then made to look like whatever part of Europe? This question is doubly urgent considering the decision to film in Europe cost us Carol, for now at any rate.

As I say, please no spoilers.

Norman Reedus as Snake-UNR

https://ift.tt/P6Jl7H9

I am currently playing DS:DC and I had this thought just now: Reedus fits the scruffy looking type with a raspy voice. Same hair color, similar body type and facial features. Besides… him and Kojima-san were already linked when he was still working for Konami.

Do you think he might have considered it?

Btw I am still hoping to find a bandana or something reminiscent of Kojima‘s old works in the barren wasteland that once was the United States.

As, someone who is a relatively moderate fan of Norman Reedus (not to throw any shade towards Edward Bosco) but I personally think the dude absolutely killed it when being a voice actor for the character Striker. Norman, definitely was able to impressively pull off the outrageously manipulative side of the character that even me, and Helluva bosses critics agree is the absolute best parts of the overall show! Unpopular Opinion: Naggie is Wooden and is the biggest problem with Dead city-UNR

https://ift.tt/9HWZDyT

Dead City's hype is undoubtbly killed by wooden maggie. her story makes no sense. supposedly she cared about the people of hilltop only to leave and make her own show. to put things in perspective in the time we have known her for like 1/10th of the series with the rest on the time jump. she was actually a good character up until s9. since her return she is wooden.

most of twd's characters are making their own shows. norman reedus is making riding with norman redus 2. i dont think negan is the best with him as he cant converse dialgue. maybe he'll learn french but the worst scenes in s11 were the 'action' scenes with norman redus and lauren cohen thinkng they look cool when they have NO emotion. even aaron / seth gilliam/gabriel are better. thats sad. we go from lance flipping a coin at ocenside and maggie and daryl at hilltop to teleportation for almost all characters. JDM cant save this show and without ppl like andrew the writers arent tethered and are doing WHATEVER. how many scenes in breaking bad or bcs were disjoineted to the point like, hey how did we get here that werent answered meticulusly. shows like that utilize every second for a purpose. this just runs the screentime out with closeups of the characters dirty clothes and sweaty hair for about 1/3 the show, 1/3 for ads and 1/3 for filler meangingless action.

'warlords' arc had potential if negans group did actually steal the weapons. show us the backtory with him and ian. not this convuluted oh so YOU robbed me? let me hire u to kill my own army.

he fit well with rick. they could have really played up the innocous i killed less people than you angle especially in what could be a BCS type show featuring saviors backstory before rick. honestly sasha was more interesting than her. as for who we have left, i would rather have eugene than maggie. better actor. the only thing lauren cohen is hanging on is how important the character is in the comic. michonne is a better role for her if they gave her role to andrea. look at s3. glenn mazzara had NO intention of shipping rick and michonne. the two are two of the better characters along with JDM so that show seems to be solid even if theres bad writing. i will watch. but maggie doesnt even have an original plotline its literally recycled from s11, as will be her i dont trust you negan i want to kill you but im starting to that went in circles. she had a chance to kill him. she didnt. he saved her sons life.

CMV at this point they should have kept ALDEN and had the new show be about him, dwight sherry and negan with flashbacks from Simon, Arat, Laura and the new savior

I’ve tried to keep it as modern and fresh as possible, keeping out already (strongly) rumoured actors and characters, but I definitely missed quite a lot of details.

I also tried to get ChatGPT to then sort this into films/TV shows that characters would appear in together but incredibly frustratingly, even though I asked it about a million times in a million different ways, it would always omit 5 or 6 characters that it just didn’t think they could fit/lump in anywhere so I’ve provided the list as a whole.

So how I made the list:

I asked ChatGPT for the list by asking it to list both actors and characters it would cast into the MCU that haven’t already been done or rumoured but given it only goes up to 2021 and a lot has been confirmed and rumoured since then so I realised I’d have to to some manual filtering and it couldn’t seem to give me a long or good enough list without mistakes, recasting or other errors. So I could either ask for a list of actors not in the MCU and as to cast them or list the characters and ask to assign actors to them. In the end it was an amalgamation of both (as I had to increase the variety of actors, as it didn’t give me a very diverse list at all, and also had to remove characters probably coming to us very soon or have already been (e.g it loved casting Daniel Ratcliffe as Moon Knight)).

I know this might not be the most pure AI thing as I was involved in the list of actors and the list of characters but all the connections/assignments made between character and actor was done by ChatGPT.

Let me know what you think!

  51. Simone Ashley - Frenzy (Joanna Cargill)

I encourage you to give Death Stranding Directors Cut a try. Or two.-UNR

https://ift.tt/GrqAvpt

Because the common theme is that it took some people several attempts to get into the game.

I admit it's a weird game because it's a very Kojima style game without the espionage. But man once you get past the first 3 chapters, the mechanic really starts to click and the story starts to open up.

If you want a slow paced game but also want to use your brain bit for strategy for travel, a bit of suspense, a bit of shooting, and a weird yet beautiful story with some science, this is really good. I mean really good. It's open world but it's not a free roam without consequence. Every journey you make it keeps on opening up and giving you new gears and structures to help you expand your journey.

The boss fights aren't that hard but the juxtaposition from peaceful to suddenly dangerous from the chimera rainfall is simply delightful.

It's a bit of traveling Sim but with some engineering of gadgets as well.

Norman reedus does some great stoic acting which is a treat if you were a fan of him in TWD.

If you're the type of person that likes using maps for route planning, this is awesome.

I am a bit biased because I've been a Kojima fan since mgs1 and I'm in my 30s too. This game isn't that fun if you have add or adhd. But if you are OCD, this is an awesome game.

ALSO, if you have gamepass for playststion I believe the dc edition is available for free.

Every chapter of the game it keeps opening up to more weird, quirky shit.

Also, the terrain is beautiful. Except for BTs.

8MM is unsettling-UNR

https://ift.tt/iSTh953

The late, great Joel Schumacher had a fantastically interesting and diverse career as a director. From brilliant social thrillers like Falling Down to epic musicals like Phantom of the Opera (and I have to confess Schumacher is the reason I fell in love with Phantom in the first place), he was always wanting to try something new and different. Even when his films weren’t necessarily good (B&R), you can definitely say it was different and at the very least interesting. So with that, it makes sense that a director of that style working with an actor who operates on a similar philosophy would make something different, unique and brilliant.

And thus, 8MM.

The story of a private investigator (played by Nicholas Cage in probably one of his best performances) hired to find out if the contents of a supposed snuff film is in fact real has a famously troubled production, with studios finding it a very dirty film they wanted little if anything to do with, the writer (Andrew Kevin Walker) leaving and disowning it after Schumacher decided to “lighten” the material (which is really saying something). To say the film we got is still as good as it is really is a testament.

First off, the snuff film itself. Whilst you don’t see much of the actual film itself, you see enough as well as Cage’s reactions to it that you know it’s truly something horrifying. It’s made clear fairly up front that this things existence alone is bizarre and terrifying, and that’s before you even meet the people who made it.

For such a dark film, it has a surprisingly stacked supporting cast. Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini, Peter Stormare, Catherine Keener, Anthony Heald and Norman Reedus (yes seriously), and they’re all bringing their A-Game. This goes doubly for Nic Cage, who plays the lead admirably straight and at times painfully broken by what he’s experienced. It’s truly gut wrenching at times watching him struggle with this.

8mm is a brilliant, if bleak film. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend.

How the hell did no one win any acting awards for The Walking Dead?-UNR

https://ift.tt/bm2xjtQ

This show has some truly incredible performances, off the top of my head you have:

Andrew Lincoln as Rick which needs no explanation really, when you look at the other juggernaut around the same time period as TWD, Game Of Thrones, there is absolutely no comparison between some of those leads, such as Kit and Emilia, and Andrew Lincoln.

Jon Bernthal, I mean this show literally in his own words, saved his life and gave him a proper career where he went on to land roles in one of the most successful movies in TWOWS as well as being a major character in the Marvel Universe, Frank Castle. All of this after he portrayed Shane to absolute perfection.

Then you have David Morrisey and Jeffrey who I can’t believe weren’t awarded for their villainous performances.

Furthermore you have people like Melissa, Lennie James, Scott Wilson, Danai Guaria, Norman Reedus, Micheal Rooker, Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan who have all given some consistently strong performances.

Though I’d also like to point out that while I’m not an expert on award show categories, I know there are nominations for best child actors and guest performances, with that in mind, the girl who played Lizzie and the man who played Eastman come to mind immediately.

It is crazy to me how a show with so many great performances but some truly top tier ones is so lacking in the awards department.
