I'd really like to know if Melissa decided to leave the spinoff to take a break from playing Carol of her own volition, or if she had to because she couldn't or didn't want to move to France. I completely understand if she wants to take a break after playing a prominent character in a popular TV show for 12 years, but the timing is really weird here. The announcement came a few months ago, so I wonder if this decision was made before they finished filming the final episodes and they just held off the announcement until afterwards, or if this was after and Melissa thought she would be in the spinoff until then, because that's such a shitty thing to do, and I wonder how the show will end for Daryl and Carol if they both leave and then she's just not there in the spinoff. Why is it more important for the spinoff to be set and filmed in France than it is for Carol to be in it, because the whole premise of the show was pitched as a Daryl and Carol show. If she felt by choice regardless of where it's filmed then it's understandable but if the choice was "move to France or don't be in it" then that's such a trashy way to treat her after dedicating the last 12 years to the show, and if they always planned to film it in France they could've made arrangements earlier on.
Of course we don't know everything that goes on behind the scenes, but it's just suspicious how we don't have a clear answer on what happened, as the execs say one thing and Norman Reedus says another.
