Merle is one of my favourite characters. Yet he isn’t from the comics, and his story line is directly tied to Daryl. But Daryl was never meant to be a character. Norman Reedus tried out for Merle but the role went to Micheal Rooker instead. They liked Norman Reedus so much that they invented Daryl just for him. But if Daryl didn’t exist what was going to be the point of inventing Merle for the show? Because as it stands the only thing that ties Merle to the show is Daryl… a character who only exists because of a last minute change. So why was Merle originally going to be in the show?
