You heard it hear, the spin off that was supposed to star Daryl and Carol, will now be a Rick/Daryl spin off.
My reasoning. There are whispers of a Rick cameo in the finale. They announced a series of movies about Rick 4 years ago and have had basically no movement. We know Rick is alive and around where the show is currently. The movies were also supposed to take place at the time of the bridge explosion. There isn't really a point to that time line, since we are past it.
The spin off has seen Melissa McBride exit. It is also supposed to take place in Europe. Andrew Lincoln was spotted earlier this year in Atlants with Norman Reedus, fueling the cameo rumors. Andrew Lincoln also exited the show partly due to wanting to spend more time with family. If they film in Europe, he would get that.
Finale theory is Daryl find Rick. Then most of the group get killed or separated. Maggie/Negan head to New York. Daryl/Rick head off there way.
The Daryl spin off needs another partner, unless they really want to do it solo for Norman Reedus. Why wait 4 years for movies, and have no movement? Rick/Daryl will carry on together.
