[XB1] H: The Norman Reedus Power Hour aka Quad Crossbow with FFR and Reload Speed W: Max 3* Executioner's Deathclaw Gauntlet-UNR
AITA in a conversation that declined so fast.-UNR
Ok so i was going to post screenshots here but i guess i can't. So you get a manuscript instead!
Some setup. I have a longterm female friend (N) that I've been trying to set up a D and D campaign with the last few weeks. We were in the modst of dicussing another friend I had asked who declined when this happened.
N: I wish people didn't jave such contradicting schedules :/
Me: That's always hard to manage sadly, unless they all work in the same place and have no families.
N: bahaha I have a family but I don't do a family night.
Me: I do a Walking Dead night with my family, but its on break for a few weeks.
N: How's that show not over yet? There's only so much you can do with zombies.
Me: Because it's not about zombies. It HAS zombies but they aren't the focal point. The comic only ended this year.
N: It got really crappy after seaaon 5. I jist cant watch it anymore. The only reason I hung on was for Norman Reedus. JDM can't even restore my interest.
Me: 🤷 Ok. Its a big thing with my family you don't have to like it.
N: Thank you for your permission. Im soooooo glad I'm allowed to not like it. I was worried to death. THANK GOD.
Me: Ok. I'll Rephrase that, Please dont shit on something i enjoy with my family as a courtesy please.
N: Ill give my opinion openly and freely. Not just gonna stop not liking it jist because you do.
Me: Im not saying you do N.
N: If you cant handle criticism of a tv show you should re evaluate things.
Me: Im asking you not to trash at something i hold important with my family solely because you disloke the show.
N: Ill trash it if I want to because I dislike it. Its a show for fucks sake its not like im trashing you for liking it. Dont ask me not to criticize something I dont like just because you enjoy it.
Me: Again. You can hate it all you want.
N: Super glad I have permission to do that. You dont want to open a can of worms here.
Me: Ok later. Your nitpicking at me for no reason here.
N: Im gonna stop you right there. Quit while your ahead trust me.
Me: I juat wanted you to not trash on something I hold important with my family at me. Despise it all you want but there no point in us discussing it.
N: Again I will freely and openly give my opinion on the matter. Its not my fault you can handle criticsm on a fictional tv show. Keep arguing and I will not be nice.
And thats the summary. Havent bothered responding anymore but am strongly considering whether or not to invest my time into the "friend" anynore after just the random outburst at something so miniscule. Or am I being the A hole?

I think I may be bisexual-UNR
I think I may be bisexual. Just for some context I've never been in a real relationship with either a girl or boy. Ever since high school I've had very low self-esteem mainly due to being overweight and had no friends. But however, during my time in university I've lost a massive amount of weight and made great friends. This gave me a confidence boost but I'm still intimidated by the idea of being with someone as I still have doubts on whether I feel worthy of being with someone. I've always been greatly attracted to girls and having massive crushes, but while in university I started questioning. I'm questioning in a more objective way because a thought crossed my mind. How does anyone truly know their sexuality without trying something outside it to really know. I use a soda analogy. "Do you like Coke? Yes! Do you like Sprite? No." The point of the soda analogy is that you at least have tried them to know what you liked. Maybe you like both sodas or maybe prefer one over the other or maybe you don't like either. You know what you liked and therefore can define yourself. This is what I kinda thought of sexuality. On a more subjective I find myself incredibly attracted to a persons personality and character. Overall modesty and confidence is the most attractive no matter if their gender is male or female. But I am attracted to physical traits as well, just personality traits overshadow them a little bit. I appreciate nice smiles, eyes, and ass. Also good body that compliment their gender. I consider myself open to trying new things to fully confirm things. What made me question is because I became really attracted to my good male friend. He is incredibly humble, hard working, and very kind. He also has a great physique and nice ass. He is straight and I'd never infringe or threaten our friendship. Unless I knew the feelings were mutual. There is a very small number of guys I would considered attracted to in my time in University compared to the girls. Probably I've been attracted to 3 guys I know while I was attracted to 12 girls. I also testing things out on tinder while I was out of my home state while on vacation. I matched with this guy who I really liked, he kinda help me realize I could be open in exploring. He had all the traits I was attracted to that kinda made me feel content with the label of bisexual but we never fully followed through in meeting due to my vacation. I also have a giant man crushes on Jason Mamoa and Norman Reedus. There is a quote in my favorite video game, Mass Effect 2, by Kelly Chambers who says something on the lines of "intimacy brings understanding, and thats nice wherever you find. Character matters, not race or gender." I also heard a quote that said whatever gets you hard, that's your sexuality. To test this I got hard on all categories of porn. . Maybe I'll like it maybe I don't but at least I'll know. I seriously feel indifferent about labels,to be honest I just want to say I like what I like. Would I be considered bisexual or just questioning? Also to be sure of your sexuality don't you need to try the other to know (whether you are straight, gay, or bi) ? Also if you are bisexual mind telling how you determined that (Also do you take personality taken into account) ? Also any advise on how to go about confirming your sexuality?

An ordinary quality safety gear is not good for professional bikers. [REQUEST] Prey Digital Deluxe ($8.00 on sale) 2nd Attempt-UNR
Hey there, hope you're doing great and feeling even better today!
This is my second attempt at trying to get this game. I hope I can possibly get it before the sale. But if you can't of course, don't sweat it! I hope you have a good one and stay cool during the summer :D
Lemme ask you a quick question: do you guys remember E3 2016? I sure do! I remember watching Detroit trailer in awe (only to watch on YouTube later, though, but it's okay) and seeing Norman Reedus in some Kojima's game, Mafia III (sorry to remind you) and God of War... I was really happy to see new titles mixed with some familiar names, you know. I was happy to see something familiar even more when I saw Prey. The trailer hadn't started yet, but I knew I was hyped because, to be honest, I was hoping to see the remake of the Prey (2006) or a sequel or something with that universe. Well, as you probably know, none of us didn't.
First few seconds gave a faint taste of disappointment and I felt like I've just been lied to and, you know, that honestly did the good job because what I saw next blew me away. That Groundhog Day feeling got me, it got me how the protagonist's eye got more and more red, the test chamber, some weird thing approaching the camera, the microgravity, the black, dysmorphic threat on a space station, protagonist talking to his own self, that gun he used to freeze the dysmorphic little thing... Now, I'm not that easily impressed, but it just felt like this one game had a lot to offer to my taste - it, supposedly, had something to do about the protagonist's memory (Total Recall, anyone?), had the test he supposedly underwent, the space station and an actually fresh feeling for a horror title with the threat so - to me, at least - unique. Once the trailer ended I felt that I was actually happy it had nothing to do with the Prey (2006). Then a gameplay trailer came out and it reinforced my shock, my desire to try it out and explore the game, and then they had a release one just to kill me... Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it and still can't. I'll stop on that later.
Prey really got me. After its release I was watching various gameplay videos, but I was so careful with that not to spoil anything to myself (and I somehow managed watching only some battle scenes), but at some point I knew that if I wanna see something new, I'm going to have to see something important in terms of the plot. Oh boy, I remember spending days watching the same locations over and over again with different approaches from different people... I wanted to try so bad. At some point I didn't want to watch it anymore, I wanted to explore it myself and seen what I can do, build my own story, you know. I managed to stop watching it at last... I'll be honest with you, it wasn't easy! My hands were itch to search and click on some videos about the game, but I did my best to resist, hoping that one day I get to play it myself.
Now it's dirt cheap, and I pray (prey? heh) that I get this game before the sale ends. I hope you consider to share your generosity with me. Thank you :)
As of right now, I'm saving up money from my part time job for textbooks and savings for when I move out to go to college in the fall. I'm trying to be extra careful with what I buy for the next month because I won't be able to keep the job when I start. I most likely will have to find another part time job to afford food and other needs

I made an Artificial Womb/BB Pod Prop for my Higgs/Man in the Golden Mask cosplay-UNR
This one's for my fellow Death Stranding cosplay enthusiasts/ 3D print people.
I had wanted to do this outfit since the first Higgs trailer dropped. I coordinated with my cosplay group so we would have the full team assembled. I made the Higgs and the Mads cosplay, and both baby tanks and chiral detectors.
Google Album: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IzMITvLKoGzM41tVU3Aa5hyQorsSXLCY
This isn't every single image of the cosplays, but I figured I'd leave the rest to our Instagram pages for those interested: [The Man in the Golden Mask/Higgs][Sam "Porter" Bridges][Cliff (Mads Mikkelsen)]
I think the only element of the Man in the Golden Mask I'm missing is the logo/insignia on the shoulder. I just ran out of time before these were taken.
I've also been waiting to share this with you guys, I know a lot of you haven't been able to get pre-orders for the collectors edition or just can't afford it.
When I wanted to make the prop originally there wasn't a lot of high-quality reference (Besides the Norman Reedus statue) out there, and I wanted a close-as-possible replica. So here it is! There is a free version you can download and a paid version for those serious about making one.
Artstation link: Artificial Womb/BB Pod prop
Fair warning if you want to make this, the hardest part of this build will be the tank "glass"

'The Walking Dead' continues indefinitely! (If the fans want it)-UNR
This year the tenth season of The Walking Dead starts and in that case at least Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, will say goodbye. The actor who probably never leaves is Norman Reedus, the performer of the character Daryl Dixon.
https://i.redd.it/wmy17sb4ibc31.jpg
Since the first season in Daryl Dixon to see in the main series of the still expanding franchise, despite the comic series has stopped and the ratings of TWD have plummeted considerably. Reedus spoke about the future at Comic Con and expects that he is not ready yet: "God, I don't know. I was part of the beginning, so I hope to experience it all for that reason alone."
The fans keep the series alive
"I have seen that the series has been adjusted and I have seen it changed. I have seen so many people go, I have seen great new characters like Judith appear. I am also a fan of the show, I would like this free ticket to from this point of view, but who knows? I mean, as long as countless people are shouting at us outside at Comic-Con, I think we'll continue, "Reedus said to the question if he thinks TWD will go on for a long time.
In addition to The Walking Dead there is of course Fear the Walking Dead and that series will at least have a sixth season. A third TDW series will also be published and a trilogy (cinema) film around Rick Grimes is planned.

KOJIMA IS ILLUMINATI theory Pt.2 - Big Balls-UNR
The Boss is a man.
CONTEXT:
The Illuminati worship this idol named Baphomet which is transgender. This makes them believe that the perfect human being is androgynous. A mix of man and woman is basically gods walking on earth, two opposites united. The Israel flag symbol comes from the same belief. A pyramid pointing up, symbolizing man, a pyramid pointing down, symbolizing woman, joined together. I'm not very good at explaining these things, but this video about the UN and the image of god might clear up some stuff. They raise their kids from the moment they are born as the opposite gender, later injecting them with male or female hormones. These kids grow up to be people's hero's and idols. Almost every woman you see on TV or cinema is a man. Taylor Swift, Melania Trump, Billie Eilish, Michelle Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jennifer Lawrence, Lea Seydoux, Wonder Woman and so on. Detecting female to males is not easy, but not impossible (just look at this example openly admitting to be an ftm). If you think this is all speculation coming from an insane mind, here is the vice president of New Zealand packing "her" metal gear.
THE JUICE:
Since this is a topic about Kojima being involved with "Illuminati", let's jump into the Kojima universe.
Before reading this, please take a good look at a real woman in real life, not on screen. Also take a look at this, this, and this picture and pay attention to the shoulder to hip ratio, jaw line and the brow ridge differences between men and women.
The Boss: Usually there is a procedure for detecting trannies, but come on, how can anyone believe that this is actually a woman?! If you can't see it, well you might as well just stop reading here.
Jennifer Hale: COME THE FUDGE ON MAN! This is might be scariest looking dude i have ever seen.
Debi Mae West: There isn't enough pictures of this one. But she has the typical tranny signs: broad shoulders, long arms, large head, strong chin.
Tasia Valenza: Same attributes as the one before.
Paul Eiding: Detecting female-to-males are tricky, but this guy even though he's old, shared some features with the pretty "boys" of Hollywood like Ryan Gosling. Close eyes, no brow ridges, weak chin, round small head, straight upward forehead.
Robin Atkin Downes: Oh shit, i really don't wanna do this. What mostly gives this guy away is the Illuminati tranny's worst nightmare: The shoulder to hip ratio. In his full body photos he is either wearing baggy clothes, putting hand in his pockets (our friend Gosling's classic move), putting hands behind back, or not directly facing the camera. I'm not %100 sure if he is actually a tranny though.
Jay Tavare: Here we get to the meme's voice actor. T-Rex arms, Testosterone, no adam's apple, no brow ridge, straight up forehead, long hair like the rest of the men here.
Death Stranding:
Norman Reedus & Diane Kruger: Kruger is pretty self explanatory. As for Reedus: Index finger longer than ring finger (female feature), the neck almost always covered, weird chest, T-Rex arms like the transformer Mark Whalberg, the energy in the pics just scream female to me. As for the skull and face they do their best to alter it. like every other "male" you just can't be %100 sure, those testosterones and surgeons must be doing their job well. For me the biggest evidence is actually his wife. If you look at any American or European public figure's wife throughout history all of them look like dudes.
Lindsay Wagner: Adam's apple, strong jawline, hard face, big head. Not much photos.
Margaret Qualley: Just look at her body. Absolutely no hips. How is that thing supposed to bear children? Also the shoulder to hip ratio screams i'm a man. Deep set eyes, strong jawline and hard face as usual, advertising the male body to real women.
I'm not gonna go through rest of the actors you get the point.
Kojima... is he a woman? With asian people it's really hard to tell, that's why all traps are asian. but the fact that he does not have anything resembling an adam's apple is very suspicious.
Now let's get ready for the downvotes.
edit: thanks to /u/bis666bank for posting this eye opening pic in the previous part. The Freemason logo and the two pillars of Solomon blatantly shown to us sheeps. If this doesn't confirm he's involved in some deep shit, i don't know what will.

Hollywood cameos in videogames too expensive? Huh?-UNR
I'm sure by now everyone has head of the "controversy" over the new avengers game in reagrds to the character design.
A lot of people are upset that the characters in this game are upset because the characters dont share the likeness of the superheroes whom we've been fawning over on the silver screen for a decade now. Which is kind of understandable.
There are also people who don't mind the new faces and will buy the game and enjoy it thoroughly regardless.
I for one dont much care about the mcu or tv shows and stuff like that in general. My heart belongs solely to videogames in this regard.
There are then those that choose to defend the devs decision to no use celeb cameos. And the defense they most often use is that its too expensive for the games industry... Thats a littlw confusing to me for a couple reasons.
The games industry has more money in it than hollywood. So why is it too expensive for games devs to pay for cameos but hollywood can pay for its actors? How come kojima can afford multiple actors like Norman Reedus and CDPR can pay for Keanu Reeves but the cast of the mcu(who's names and faces are, at this point after watching them for 10 years, now synonymous with the characters they're playing) are too expansibe to hire? Like they can't just pay them for a face scan and hire a totally different actor for the mo-cap and voice?
Im in no way invovled in any of these industries to any extent so I'm very stupid about all this stuff.
Sorry for the long post
TLDR; i dont know anything but why are celeb cameos too expensive for a seemingly bigger industry?

My (slightly over) Six month update-UNR
WARNING!! STUPIDLY LONG ESSAY BELOW
TL;DR- rejigging my 12in12 after half a year to better fit myself. I played some games, enjoyed some, not others. Go play Night In The Woods it’s brilliant.
For reference, my original post is here:
https://reddit.com/r/12in12/comments/acvotl/my_12in12_walking_sims/
Hello 12in12.
So I thought since it’s been longer than 6 months I should do an update, and reflect on my time attempting to do this challenge and what I’ve learned about myself as a video game player.
So firstly I’ll recap what I have actually managed to beat this year. I have beaten 8 games this year, but many of these are smaller games. These were:
LA Noire (switch): enjoyed the first half but was really soured on the story and the mechanics by the end of the game.
Firewatch (switch): great story, really enjoyed it. A few performance issues on the switch version though
Hitman (PS4): an incredibly enjoyable sandbox, really enjoyed playing through each of the missions. Replayed the levels a handful of times but I would never want to do all the repetition to 100% this game
Doom (Switch): was very pleased I got through this as I found it tough, but was an exciting, intense experience.
Night in the Woods (Switch): what a beautiful and fantastic experience. Without spoiling it, this games deals somewhat in issues of depression, anxiety, loneliness, loss, and presents it all in a way that really resonated with me. I wish the ending had been a little different to how it was (if you’ve played it you’ll know the part I’m talking about) but overall it really resonated with me on quite a significant level. I’ve read reactions from others online and not everyone seems to have got as much out of the experience, and that’s fair enough, but I found it to be incredibly memorable and I am excited to play it through again with my wife and see what she thinks of it.
Crash Bandicoot 3 (remake - switch): a game I am incredibly nostalgic for and was happy to play through it again in HD. YMMV but I love these games.
Metroid: Zero mission (GBA): Great reimagining of the original game, I would recommend playing this as your first metroidvania as it’s not too challenging and offers lots of hints and waypoints to help. Great place to start with the series as well, excited to play Super Metroid in the future.
Wario Ware (GBA): I mean...it’s Wario ware, what can you say? It’s brilliant, but it’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea.
Okay, now for the games I didn’t get through
The Last of Us (PS4): got a few chapters in but the gameplay really wasn’t grabbing me. I know this is a highly revered game, and I do want to press on with it to experience the story, but I always think “I could play Last of Us....but I’d rather play X”. Maybe it’s just not for me
This is the Police (PS4): really interesting light-strategy game, love the presentation. Still playing this one though as it’s taking a while to get through.
Breath of the Wild - The Champions Ballad (Wii U) - good lord what a let down, played it for a few hours and was bitterly disappointed. I won’t spoil it here but suffice to say I was hugely let down by what the expansion was- it felt lazy to me. Disappointing after what a fantastic experience the main game was.
Smash Bros World of light (Switch) - got to the main boss of the first world and am currently stuck. Okay so I kinda suck at smash but I don’t think I suck too bad to beat the single player mode on medium difficulty. honestly I tried for two hours and it just always kicks my arse towards the end of the battle. So yeah just got frustrated and gave up.
Life is strange (PS4) - I did the first chapter, thought “yeah that was pretty good” and never picked it up again 🤷♂️
Everything else on my list up to this point I never got round to starting/picking up again so not much I can say there.
So, what have I learned from this experience? A few main things I think:
-
I don’t have as much time to play video games as I thought and the amount of games I set out to play were way too much for my schedule. Honestly I see people on here completing 3 or more games a month and I just think what the hell lol, how are you doing that?
-
When I do play video games, I tend to play a lot of multiplayer with my wife and friends (rocket league, sonic mania, mario kart, smash, fifa, worms, new SMB etc etc etc) and so while I do play a lot of video games, I’m not getting through a lot of single player experiences. I’ve also realised that that’s ok, and as long I’m enjoying my free time it really doesn’t matter.
-
I am way too easily bored to play video games one at a time. I much prefer playing 30-60 mins of 3 or 4 games than 2-3 hours of one game.
So, with all this in mind, I’m redoing my 12in12 for the rest of the year. I have reduced the number of games, taken into account what I’m enjoying at the moment, as well as games with near release dates that I will definitely want to play:
July/August: Final Fantasy VII (Switch): I have literally never played a turn-based RPG before but I’m really enjoying it. Just left Midgar and excited to see the game open up
September: A Link to the Past (Switch): Incredibly excited for this, can’t wait.
October: This is the Police (PS4): As talked about above, hoping to be able to finish this game just to see the rest of the story
November/December: Death Stranding (PS4): Seeing the trailer for this is what made me get a PS4 in the first place. So obviously this is one I’ll play day one. It could be amazing, it could be terrible, it’ll definitely be weird and non-sensical. Either way, I can’t wait to experience Norman Reedus And His Jar Of Foetus.
If I can beat these four games, that’ll at least be 12 games for the year, and I can consider that I (sort of) did the challenge. But I certainly won’t be doing this again next year. It’s been fun to try, but it’s just not how I play video games.
If you read all this thanks, sorry for the essay, reading all this is probably a bigger accomplishment than playing 12 games!!

Unraveling Death Stranding-UNR
Hello, everyone!
As some of you might know from previous posts, I wrote and essay on the game. In the last six weeks, I immersed myself in the lore, in science, in your theories, comments and insights. The essay is meant to be a guide and a reliable source for all DS fans. It's basically what you have to forward to that one friend who keeps saying: "What is this game?", "We know nothing about it!". You'll be relieved to just link them and say: "Here. This person on the internet wrote everything you need to know". Just don't mention it's long.
I posted the first part yesterday (by the way, thank you u/Rats-Get-Fat for the gold!), but since the word limit was forcing me to cut a few things, I've decided to publish everything on Tumblr. You can access Unraveling Death Stranding Blog and proceed to read the essay at your on pace, following the index.
The essay is divided in nine sections:
- Introduction - introduces what the essay is all about: explaining what Death Stranding is. Read it for disclaimers, references and contributors.
- What is Death Stranding? - Why is everyone talking about this game? Who made it?
- When does it take place? - Does DS take place in the future or in present days? If so, when? Is it in our reality or in another one?
- Where does it take place? - Does DS take place in our universe? Is it on Earth? If on Earth, where? Is it in Iceland? Or in the USA? Does USA even exist? What the hell is happening when Norman Reedus is underwater? Will we play during World War I and World War II?
- Who are you playing as? - Get to know Sam Porter Bridges, Death Stranding's protagonist - learn about his physical and psychological attributes
- What's happening? - Learn about chirality, antimatter and overlapping realities
- What are the monsters all about? - DS has BTs, ghosts, Lovecraftian monsters and five mysterious monolithic deities
- Characters - Get to know more of the characters, including Cliff (Mads Mikkelsen) and Higgs, The Man In The Golden Mask (Troy Backer)
- How is the world? How will I explore it? - after all, it is a game: how is the open-world and the gameplay?
I hope you enjoy!

Unraveling Death Stranding-UNR
Introduction
This post is my best effort to put together the most accurate and reliable information about Death Stranding (DS) that fans have gathered throughout years' worth of discussing, analyzing, theorizing and putting together pieces of information provided by Hideo Kojima. It’s all based on educated guesses and should not be taken as a definitive guide for the game, so take everything with a grain of salt. This long essay is supposed to be an introduction to newbies, a somewhat comprehensive source for the interested but lost or a good reference point for the die-hard (pun intended) veteran crowd. I’m tired of people saying this game is just an overhyped walking simulator and not a beautiful and poetic work of art meant to be read in a meta level. I hope to convince you of the latter by the end.
Not in any way, shape or form do I claim all content presented here are ideas of my own and I’d be a terrible person if I claimed them as such, so bear in mind this isn’t, at all, only original content. My personal opinions/theories will be clear in the text. My main challenge was to figure out how some wonderful community takes could be put together in the most logical of ways, but naturally, my own view might interfere a bit, such as which particular theory I affiliate myself with. Since this is a compilation of many sources, I tried my best to give as many references and credits to people as I could in the text and at the bottom of this long read. However, I’ll be highlighting works of people I read or watched content firsthand, mainly through YouTube and Reddit. If you want credit (or get your content removed if I couldn’t reach you), please feel free to PM me. I came into the community not over six months ago so I couldn’t possibly have a reference of where most things came from.
I don’t care if you share, translate and discuss this post elsewhere, as long as you give credit and provide a link to this post. First, because the sources of other people’s work are all listed here. I tried to reach every single one of the 40+ contributors. This is a community’s work. Second, I worked on this in the span of six weeks and it wasn’t easy at all. Specially considering I've never written so much in my second language - by the way, thanks my friend Wilson who helped me with editing and grammar. However, I think the most important thing is to make everyone more excited about the game and this fascinating story. Comment below, PM me or reach me out on Twitter to talk about DS!
Since this essay is very long (14,000 words long), I’ll post it in a few parts. Part I will answer the following questions:
- What is Death Stranding?
- When does it take place?
- Where does it take place?
WARNING: this post contains potential spoilers in case the predictions turn out to be true. Details in the trailers analyzed here might spoil the fate of some characters. If you are sensitive to spoilers on gear, weapons, and locations, do not read this post.
What is Death Stranding?
Let’s suppose you’ve been reading random articles on Reddit or Wikipedia at 3 AM and somehow you end up in this sub, not knowing a thing of what this is all about. Death Stranding (DS) is PlayStation 4 exclusive video game title, written, produced and directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by his own company, Kojima Productions (KJP). There are six trailers for the game out there, and I recommend you to watch them before continuing your reading if it’s your first contact with the game. You can find all of them at KJP’s playlist, except for the TGS 2018.
Hideo Kojima | Photo by TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL/Variety
Hideo Kojima is a well-renowned name in the video game industry for his work on the Metal Gear Solid (MGS) franchise, “one of the first ever games to prioritize avoidance of combat and confrontation over direct combat itself”, that is, a stealth game. He worked over 30 years at Konami, but eventually parted ways by unfriendly means. His last work on this company was P.T., a groundbreaking playable teaser for the horror genre in the medium. It was a demo for an upcoming title in the Silent Hill franchise, but unfortunately, it was canceled. I strongly recommend you to watch Luke Stephens’ videos on DS1 and on PT2 if you want to know more.
DS’s genre isn’t conventional. It’s been described as “cinematic adventure”3 and Kojima himself said on his Twitter account, “DS is not a stealth game. Could move subjectively but not a FPS shooting game either”4. “It’s a brand new action game with the concept of connection (strand). I call it Social Strand System, or simply Strand Game”5. Kojima’s been heavily inspired by Kobo Abe, a Japanese author, and when discussing the game at E3 2016, when the game was first revealed, Kojima said the following to IGN6:
Abe states that the first tool mankind created is a stick. He states that the stick is the first tool that mankind created to put distance between himself and bad things — to protect himself. He states that the second tool mankind created is a rope. A rope is a tool used to secure things that are important to you. Most of your tools in action games are sticks. You punch or you shoot or you kick. The communication is always through these ‘sticks.’ In [DS], I want people to be connected not through sticks, but through what would be the equivalent of ropes… But of course, you will be able to use the sticks too.
Besides the strand and connections theme, the game also deals with life and death. Further, it’s probably named after cetacean stranding, “a phenomenon in which whales and dolphins strand themselves on land, usually on a beach”. That’s why dead whales, dead crabs, and dead fish are scattered all across almost every single trailer so far. As much as DS itself, these events are shrouded in mystery, as despite of “several explanations, (…) none have so far been universally accepted as a definitive reason for the behavior”7.
When does it take place?
TGA 2017 trailer begins and ends with a quote from Sam (Norman Reedus), the game’s main character:
Once, there was an explosion. A bang which gave birth to time and space. Once, there was an explosion. A bang which set a planet spinning in that space. Once, there was an explosion. A bang which gave rise to life as we know it. And then, came the next explosion. An explosion that will be our last.
The wording here is important. First, an explosion came; it means Sam seems to live in a period when the explosion has already happened. It’s likely Sam has experienced the explosion himself. He’s experiencing its repercussions. The official synopsis of the game from PlayStation reads8:
In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the planet, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding. With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged wasteland and save mankind from impending annihilation.

This answers the question of what is Death Stranding, at least in an in-game level. Connecting the dots is easy: the Death Stranding transformed the world, they were the explosions that came and its ongoing changes will cause the universe to collapse and to end. These explosions seemingly triggered the main events shown in trailers. It caused all humanly incomprehensive things we watch perplexed and confused, the closest to a Lovecraftian apocalypse we have ever seen portrayed in any media form. What caused it, though, is unknown.
u/ULTRON_XIII has a very curious theory of what may have caused these explosions. It’s a very nice post you can read for yourself10 since I’m copying partially:
Humans have unified all the equations of quantum mechanics [and] relativity, in order to travel between the parallel worlds. They discover that there are two parallel dimensions: life dimension (…) and death dimension. This causes [a] bleed over effect between the two dimensions, blurring the lines of life and death to the point that the 'invisible' entities are invading the life dimension to feed on our souls while humans can now be resurrected so long as they are not captured.
This theory makes sense and I believe messing with quantum mechanics and relativity is definitely what happened. However, the question of why did they cause the Death Stranding is as important as what caused the Death Stranding. Human curiosity and experimentation are a reasonable motive, but as much as I don’t dislike u/ULTRON_XIII’s theory, I don’t believe they unified the equations in order to travel between worlds. Could it be? Sure, but I think they were messing around to improve Mankind lifestyle – science boils down to this – however, they went too far, caused the apocalypse and opened a path to interdimensional beings by accident. Fortunately, u/risen87 has my back. In his post11, he gave a few theories on why would scientists do this, appealing to a few things we worry about as species: conquering space, extend lifespan, genetic engineering, and alternative energy generation.
Lunar Exploration: Timefall would be an incredibly useful tool for terraforming - the ability to fast-forward the growth of an ecosystem would make living on other planets (or the moon) far easier. An external womb and the ability to suspend the development of a fetus in it would could also be part of a space [colonization] program.
Resurrection/Life Extension: being able to bring someone back from the dead (especially on a lunar mission) would be useful. The military might have wanted to be able to resurrect soldiers and control them. The rich (or the President) might have wanted to be able to live longer, either through cloning or through the BB extinction skill. It could also have been a plan to contact the dead.
Genetic Manipulation: trying to engineer a human being who could survive in adverse conditions (like on the Moon), or trying to overcome an infertility problem, trying to solve a medical issue. (...) An infertility problem (or too many deaths and [need] to create more children) might have led to the creation of BBs.
Energy Generation: it might have been as simple as trying to tap into another dimension to get more energy. In this (as well as in other scenarios above) there would be the “conservation of energy” catch - that nothing can be created or destroyed, so if you take something from another dimension, it takes something back.
This also explains Sam’s last quotes from RDR trailer: “Covering the world in cable didn't put an end to war and suffering. Don't act surprised if it all comes apart if you try to do it again”, which suggests that in a high-tech future and with unprecedented scientific discoveries, maybe the extensive knowledge backfired: progress, despite being legit and done with the best intentions in mind, caused the Death Stranding. The cataclysmic event lead to suffering and, as in any great calamity, caused anarchy in a worldwide scale, which lead to more war.
DS takes place “in the near future”. This is obvious due to the presence of many devices with futuristic looks, such as shackles with colors indicating health, a motorcycle and a car that looks nothing like ours, especially compared to the ones displayed in the wreckage, and the levitating cargo units Sam has behind him. These are a technology we could see coming in future years, that don’t depend on Death Stranding's occurrence.
Where does it take place?
DS likely takes place on our universe, Kojima himself said “something from another world [is] stranding in our world”12 but it’s debatable. Kojima has placed various equations, as u/xraizy commented here13, in the game’s footage. In general, they hint at time travel, space travel, multiverse, multiple worlds, and black holes. In short, sci-fi stuff. It can’t be determined exactly if the game takes place in our universe since there is no hint whatsoever. I think the lack of evidence is deliberate and it means it’s indeed our universe and our Earth, which makes players get attached and have more sympathy for the characters and the repercussions of the explosion that changed the world, our world. The earlier quote by Sam is fundamental to understand why the game takes place on Earth.
It has been extensively debated that these explosions are all related to our universe and our planet. The explosions mentioned are the Big Bang, the Theia Impact and the Cambrian Explosion14 and as we’ve determined, the last explosion was the Death Stranding. In case you skipped Science class, the Theia Impact, and the Cambrian Explosion are related to how Earth was put in spinning at its own axis by colliding with celestial bodies and to an event that caused most of animal groups we know to exist, respectively. So, two massive Earth related events pretty much point to Earth being the game’s stage. Otherwise, these sentences would serve no purpose, and it isn’t how Kojima works.
Now with Earth out of the way, where on Earth does the main story take place? Our first glimpse of this matter occurs on the second trailer showcased in TGA 2016, on which we meet Deadman (Guillermo Del Toro’s likeness) for the first time. He has a remarkable lapel pin on his suit: Bridges logo. The logo consists of a map of the United States of America (USA), covered by a spider web pattern, the name Bridges and United Cities of America (UCA).
BRIDGES lapel pin | Official Death Stranding merch (Japanese store)
In the RDR trailer, we learn from Sam that “America’s finished” and “we don’t need a country. Not anymore”. After the explosion, not everything is as it used to be, and this includes how geopolitics and countries operate after this apocalyptic event. In the trailer, we met a woman called Bridget (Lindsay Wagner). Sam reminds her she is “the president of jack shit” and, interestingly, the Japanese subtitles read “you’re no longer president”15. Safe to assume, Bridget was the former president of the USA before the Death Stranding happened. It might explain why she is at the Oval Office, after all, confirming u/fossmonz’s theory16. Bridget is sick and dying, and she wants Sam to “make America whole”. This is not going to be an easy task since Sam seems to be stubborn and skeptic, and because the world is now home of “extremists everywhere, plotting in the shadows” like the Homo Demens.
Bridges is an organization, we can see its name printed on other people’s vests, on the door of a vehicle, on Sam’s equipment and most importantly, Kojima referred to Die-Hardman (Tommie Earl Jenkins), as “commander of the organization”17. We can see part of Bridges’ logo on his arm patch in the official artwork by Yoji Shinkawa, the game’s character designer. It’s safe to assume either UCA is what remains of the USA or a superior organization, affiliated with Bridges. I personally believe it’s the government. Only a few cities remain, those not obliterated. Bridges might be the closest thing of a governmental organization that exists now. This means, most likely, that the game takes place in an area that used to be the USA.
The story, therefore, takes place in the USA, or what is left of it. This seals the deal, right? Well, not really. Apparently, there’ll be multiple countries represented. Del Toro’s character in the second trailer is seemingly in Saint-Malo, France, as u/Hikometi pointed out in his blog18. The soldiers are also speaking German, which is historically consistent according to Wikipedia: Saint-Malo was invaded in World War II19. Not only that, but the latest trailer has very clear footage of this place and players will be able to play on it. Even if it happens not to be this specific city, it’s safe to assume at one point we will see something unfolding in France, involving war, decay and fallen armies/soldiers to rise up as reanimated skeletons of those who perished long ago.
Sam at the upside down realm| Screen capture by Kojima Productions
There is one more place in the game worth discussing before debating what this war scenario is about: limbo or “upside down realm”, as it’s called on PlayStation website20. Upside down realm is probably the canon term and that is what I’ll use from now on. In the game, a grey/blue-ish photography represents this Realm. When the player is closer to interdimensional beings that can cause death, TGA 2017 showed us that the gravity shifts. Not only that, but also in this same trailer, all elements are upside down and floating upwards when Sam’s in this bizarre Realm: the fish and the whale are swimming upside down; a heavy truck is floating up, and also are several corpses and rocks. As YongYea pointed out in his TGA 2017 trailer analysis21, most objects behave more naturally if the footage is flipped vertically.
“Purgatory” is a common term among the fans to describe this place, due to an interview Kojima made with IGN, on which the writer called it “purgatory”. However, “purgatory is a final purification to achieve the holiness necessary to enter Heaven (...) Unlike the damned, those in the state of purgatory have the joy of knowing that, upon purification, they will enter eternal life in heaven”22. If I’m not mistaken it means if you’re going to Hell, you skip purgatory. Anyway, Sam doesn’t die for good. Whenever he dies, he’s sent to the upside down, a handprint appears in his chest and eventually, he comes back to the world of the living. His name might be a reference to samsara, that is, the cycle of birth and rebirth for Eastern religions, such as Buddhism. Sam will keep coming, Low Roar’s song was not on accident. The notion of purgatory is, therefore, not compatible with rebirth. Maybe neither is Heaven and Hell, but I’ll comment on that later. Now that my crazy nitpicky rant is over, I transcribe IGN’s article below, as it’s crucial to understand the upside down realm:
From the sound of it, this is where Sam, and the player, go every time they die. But don’t make the mistake of calling this “game over.” When you die in Death Stranding, you’re transported to [upside down realm], where you’re free to explore in first-person. Because of some mysterious “unique” abilities Sam possesses, you can wander outside of your body, recovering items among other things. As Kojima explains, “At that point, you’re not dead or alive. It’s the equivalent of that screen that says ‘Continue?’ and a counter ticking down towards zero”.
From what Kojima told us, here's how it sounds -- when you’re ready to return to the world of the living, you can get back into your body. However, unlike most games which set you back to a point before you died, Death Stranding acknowledges your defeat, and seems to even embrace it. You’re transported back to the world after your death -- like in Dark Souls or roguelikes -- where your actions maintain an aura of persistence. The mechanic of “dying” is ubiquitous in video games, but it sounds as though Kojima is implementing systems inspired by purgatory and reincarnation as well.
It seems pretty clear that the player will control the BB (Bridge baby) in the upside down realm and that they will navigate in the limbo waters. In TGA 2017 trailer, Sam dies from an explosion caused by the colossi and then the camera pans from outside to Sam’s mouth, and then BB appears. It can’t get much better than that. Worth pointing out u/Mohamed_Ibrahim18’s find23: “Ancient Egyptians believed that the esophagus lid directly to the uterus, and in the trailer, it appears that the baby inside Sam’s body is located directly beneath his esophagus”.
To add my theory on something, there is a certain scene where Sam is at Upside Down Realm but out of water in the latest trailer that confused almost everyone. My bet on this is surprisingly simple: the player will be able to navigate Upside Down Realm in first person and “you can wander outside of your body, recovering items among other things” – we assumed “limbo” would be just underwater, turns out, it’s not. Maybe, to get out of this state, players will have to find and use a specific item to come back to the world of the living. That shot is Sam having to use the gun in himself, and how he gets a new weapon, such an important gameplay mechanic. Sam will fall unconscious on the ground, and then BB will find his way into his body again.
This is consistent with the TGA 2017 trailer, which probably takes place early in the game; my guess is it’ll be the very first time Sam dies - at least the first time players know of. Like a tutorial, to learn to navigate limbo. What will the players find in their first visit? The most important thing revealed in that trailer is how Sam and BB, who powers a vital game mechanic, started their journey together. Thus, BB is the crucial item needed to be found. It means he only has to go around, find something else – a charming Ludens keychain, for instance – for the sake of it. Then BB will swim back into Sam. Sam here is unconscious the whole time, maybe because it was the first time he died for an interdimensional being or the first time he dies in a long time. With time, during our gameplay, he will probably die more often, so at the time that scene happens, maybe he will be able to be conscious.
