When you die in Death Stranding, you’re transported to this purgatory (referring to underwater dimension we saw in TGA 2018 teaser), where you’re free to explore in first-person. Because of some mysterious “unique” abilities Sam possesses, you can wander outside of your body, recovering items among other things. At that point, you’re not dead or alive. It’s the equivalent of that screen that says ‘Continue?’ and a counter ticking down towards zero.
After the voidout/explosion, truck from the trailer is transported to Purgatory as well as Sam. Sam's previous body is a fresh corpse and truck is not there for too long. We can also observe whales, fish, crabs, floating corpses and a strange monster.
Second trailer shows a rusty tank !!BEWARE!!! full of whale intestines, WWII planes and soldier corpses from WWII. Whale intestines and rust indicates they were arrived from Purgatory (afterlife dimension) as well.
So my question is, what else this Purgatory may contain ? I think the teasers only showed us the tip of the iceberg. Purgatory may contain all human history in itself... Trapped souls from every era and primitive weapons they used to kill each other.
