Boondock Saints- Every fight scene has a trinity [spoilers]-UNR

In the movie Boondock Saints there are heavy Catholic themes from the prayer to the priestly approval and so on. In every fight scene there is a trinity of Saints.

The first fight scene is in the Irish pub. There the brothers are drinking with friends on St. Patrick's day when the new Russian mob owner's knee-breakers come in and try to force everyone out. As the confrontation escalates Rocco gets knocked out and the bartender stays behind the bar the entire time. But the brothers and other patrons all fight the three Russians. The other bar patrons are the writer/director's band, The Brood, who would make the third leg of the trinity since they did the soundtrack.

The next fight is the followup with the Russians when they charge into the brothers home. After they kill the Russians they go to the hospital and then the police station to give their statement. So who is the third Saint? I give to theories:

  1. Simplest: Rocco. He wraps up the scene by bringing them their clothes and hangs out with them in the jail cell.

  2. More complicated: It transfers. First the bartender comes and takes the guns and money from the brothers in the hospital. They transition away from him when they go to the police station. When they are giving their statement to Smecker (DaFoe) he is the third at that time. Finally Rocco becomes the third by passing Smecker at the press conference.

The next fight is in the hotel when they drop out of the ceiling. After assassinating the Russian mobsters they are checking out the case of money when who should knock on the door but Rocco again. He was sent with a six-shooter to kill nine Russians. He was actually intended to be a part of their deaths, though not in the way his bosses meant. He even gets to follow this up by shooting up the diner, cutting his teeth, so to speak, by killing three people.

The next two fights are obvious- Killing Vincenzo Lipazzi (Ron Jeremy) and the blank man were both set up by Rocco. However, there is a bit of foreshadowing as they leave the blank man's house they are confronted by Il Duche. They all get hit, but Rocco actually loses a finger to Il Duce.

The next fight is in Papa Joe's house. They get caught quickly and tied up in the basement. After some discussion Papa Joe puts one through Rocco's chest and then leaves before Il Duce shows back up. While Rocco is bleeding out and incapacitated Smecker shows up in drag and acts as the third Saint, killing mobsters throughout the house.

While making his way through the house, though, Smecker gets knocked out by Il Duce (who has a "no women, no kids" policy and Smecker is in drag) and quickly discovers the brothers praying over Rocco in the basement. Here he becomes the third Saint when he finishes the prayer with them and identifies himself as their father.

In the final scene they are the Holy Trinity while they take out Papa Joe in court: Father (Il Duce/Noah- Billy Conolly), Son (Connor- Sean Patrick Flanery), and Holy Spirit (Murphy- Norman Reedus).

Other details of note off the top of my head:

In the court scene Noah tells the red-headed girl that she must watch. After it's over and everyone is running outside the cameras all converge on her.

Someone previously pointed out the picture of the cat over the cat's blood splatter on the wall.

The crack in the ceiling of the jail splits into three. Two land on the brothers, baptising them.
