IJW: Boondock Saints (1999)-UNR
I was looking for something mindless to watch and saw that Boondock Saints was on Amazon Prime and decided "why the hell not." Now I don't really regret my decision to watch but I am disappointed. Is it a bad movie? Yeah. Is the the worst movie ever? No. Is it nearly two hours of wasted potential? Definitely.
That is what makes me so confused and disappointed in this movie. There are slivers of good ideas and interesting story. Willem Dafoe seems to be having the time of his life acting in it. The chemistry between Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery is pretty believable. The general idea could've been something it just isn't. A modern crusade against gangs, mobs, mafias, ect. Could be an interesting story to tell. The ball was just dropped then popped. I think if a better writer and director got ahold of the same basic idea and had most of the same cast something good could've been made. I'm not looking for Godfather or Goodfellas level storytelling but give me something so I'm not so confused and disappointed. I went in with no expectations and left with what-ifs.
My main gripes with this movie are not as many as a lot of people who critique it but I have a few. Like a lot of people I find Rocco pretty annoying but he's not more than plot item. Funny Man. Because everyone is laughing at you not with you. Why the fuck is Ron Jeremy here? How is the big bad such an incompetent group of Italian stereotypes? Not once did I really believe any of the gang shit going. Did the director see any mafia based stuff. Papa Joe felt like someone saw 30 seconds of Tony from the Sopranos and ran with it. Also he barely says a damn thing the entire movie. I do not believe this guy is the head of a major crime family at all. The pointless and tasteless racism and sexism is very just mind-numbing and painful to sit through. Racism could've been used as a plot device if they went with the Irish-American and Italian-American fighting that was very prominent in the mafia settings. Instead of slurs there could've been something compelling made out of it. I just see so many half ideas that could've been something.
Now the humor. Rocco isn't funny. The rule of thumb joke, I don't see why it's been praised by people. It's pretty dumb. To me all the humor in the movie came from Willem Dafoe. The walking oxymoron. The homophobic gay man. This insane, eccentric, eclectic. mad genius, who is just killing every scene he's in. I found myself doing 10 second skips a lot during the movie but when Dafoe was on screen I was dialed in. That investigation towards the end where he's tearing his clothes off, crawling in the dirt, screaming like a child was so hilarious to me. He delivers his lines perfectly in every scene. After watching it I feel like I understand his Green Goblin portrayal even more. I honestly think if the brothers took a back seat and this was a detective drama with Dafoe as the lead actor and all the Saint stuff being in flashbacks as Dafoe describes the crime scene similar to how it already is in the movie it would've been so much better. I don't need to follow Rocco fuck Rocco. I wanna watch Dafoe tear down detectives, describe a crime scene with almost prophetic power, and then decide that the Saints are in the right and help them towards the end. We can keep the idea that the Saints are "good guys" but now I just want Paul Smecker movie.
At the end of the day I think is a mid and a bit heavy handed. I'm all for over the top action but this felt like a Seagal movie that hired better actors.

Have you ever wondered what signs fictional characters are?-UNR
I love doing this with TV shows. Specifically I like to guess what their placements are, like a group of what placements their sun/moon are and also rising/mercury sometimes too. I did this while watching Impractical Jokers, I know that’s not a fictional show but I was able to pretty accurately guess what signs they were. Joe and Sal were easiest to guess for me: Joe is a Gemini (obviously) and Sal is a Scorpio Sun and Taurus Moon. I knew he HAD to have strong presence of fixed signs, specifically Scorpio or Taurus because of his tendency to obsess over his appearance and material things, as well as his incredible resistance to doing embarrassing things. Murr and Q were harder to guess. I thought Murr was either Aquarius or Gemini because he’s pretty weird, turns out he’s Taurus Sun Gemini Moon (which I guess was pretty close because fixed + Gemini). I couldn’t guess Quinn but turns out he’s a Pisces Sun and Leo/Virgo moon depending on what websites you check (time of birth not exact).
Anyway have you done this with actual fictional characters? I’m watching the Walking Dead right now and wondering what signs Daryl Dixon might be. He’s extremely private and doesn’t show his emotions, but he’s also not afraid to get shit done. Though he seems hard on the outside he’s incredibly soft inside. I’m thinking, if he were real, he must have some Scorpio in his chart, as well as Cardinal signs (specifically Aries or Capricorn) and possibly some Virgo in his chart too.
I just love to think about this stuff lol. IRL Norman Reedus is actually a Capricorn Sun, Leo Moon and Scorpio rising. It makes total sense when you see videos of him off screen, he’s such a goober lmao. But because of his Scorpio rising he can really get into the intensity of his characters and I think that’s why a lot of people are so obsessed with him. He’s just alluring and mysterious.
Anyway what do you guys think? If you’ve seen TWD, what signs do you think the characters are? Have you personally done this with any other tv show’s characters? And if so what is your SMR? (I’m a Gemini moon and I’m constantly thinking about random shit lmfao ๐)

15 Actors Who Left Such A Lasting Impression On Writers, They Ultimately Had Roles Created For Them-UNR
- First, in Parks and Recreation, the role of April Ludgate didn't exist before Aubrey Plaza came in to audition. Allison Jones, who cast the show, called creator Michael Shur and said, "I just met the weirdest girl I've ever met in my life. You have to meet her and put her on your show." April was then written for Aubrey.
- In Bottoms, the role of Josie was written specifically for Ayo Edebiri by writers Emma Seligman and Rachel Sennott. However, Ayo recalled being asked to audition. She said, "I'm still slightly salty about it. I don't know who made me audition, but I passed."
- In Barbie, even before Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig approached Ryan Gosling about playing Ken, Greta wrote the role for him. She even wrote "Ken (Ryan Gosling)" in the script. Greta recalled, "I thought I was writing it for Ryan Gosling, even though I don't know Ryan and have never met him, but I imagined him in it."
- In Euphoria, creator Sam Levinson wrote Ali for Colman Domingo. Colman said he feels "incredibly blessed" because Ali has been a dream role. His work on the show earned him a 2022 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
- In The Holiday, writer and director Nancy Meyers revealed she wrote the role of Iris with Kate Winslet in mind. At the time, Kate told Nancy that having a part written for her had never happened before.
- In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Stephanie Beatriz originally auditioned for the role of Amy Santiago but was then asked to return for the role of Megan. Eventually, Megan turned into Rosa Diaz thanks to what Stephanie brought to the role. In particular, Rosa's coming out storyline was mainly inspired by Stephanie's own coming out journey.
- In The Shape of Water, writer and director Guillermo del Toro wrote the role of Elisa with Sally Hawkins in mind. He was so determined to have her star in the movie that while drunk at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2013, he spotted Sally and ran right up to her. Guillermo recalled, "It's the first time I see her. I say, 'Sally — Guillermo.' I hugged her. And I said, 'I'm writing a movie for you where you fall in love with a fish-man!'"
- In Gilmore Girls, after initially auditioning for Rory Gilmore, Liza Weil had the role of Paris Geller created for her after the casting directors and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino loved her so much.
- In Fleabag, while creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge knew she wanted to explore religion "very, very early on," the priest character became who he was after she "imagined Andrew Scott in that role." By writing the "Hot" Priest for Andrew, Phoebe was able to make "this man complex and three-dimensional, and sort of a match for Fleabag."
- In The Last Song, author Nicholas Sparks was beginning to work on a new story when he heard Miley Cyrus loved A Walk to Remember, and Disney producers were looking for a story in a similar vein for her to star in. While Nicholas had an idea for The Last Song previously, Miley's interest prompted him to focus "more intently on it" and create the character of Ronnie with her in mind.
- In Anatomy of a Fall, director and cowriter Justine Triet wrote the leading role for Sandra Hรผller, with whom she had previously worked with. She even named the character Sandra, hoping to convince the real Sandra to say yes to the movie. The role ultimately earned Sandra an Academy Award nomination.
- In Pulp Fiction, writer and director Quentin Tarantino created the role of Jules Winnfield for Samuel L. Jackson. After Samuel auditioned for Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino remembered him and said he was writing something for him. His work earned him an Academy Award nomination in 1995.
- In The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus was so in love with the original pilot script he came in and read for Merle Dixon, even though the role had already been cast. Creator Frank Darabont reportedly loved Norman so much that he created the character of Daryl Dixon, who doesn't exist in Robert Kirman's original comics.
- In Bridesmaids, Brynn reportedly didn't exist in the original script until Rebel Wilson came in and auditioned for Melissa McCarthy's character. While she didn't get that role, they added her in as Brynn. Rebel said, "There was never supposed to be two roommates, only one."
- And finally, in Frasier, the original concept for the series did not include Frasier Crane having a brother. However, casting assistant Sheila Guthrie came across David Hyde Pierce's headshot and clips of The Powers That Be and suggested it to the creators. They looked at the footage and "fell in love with him." Thus, the character of Niles was created.

Unpopular Opinion About A Future Reunion-UNR
Unpopular Opinion: I like Daryl but I don’t think Norman Reedus is that great of an emotional actor, he’s off by like 5° in every emotional scene so with that being said, a reunion with him and Rick wouldn’t be as fulfilling as some would assume…. Seeing them both on the same show, in the same scene would be enough but this fanbase HAS to see Rick reunite with Daryl in this emotional “you’re my brother” way. It’s just a no for me. Even within the TWD storyline and the years spent apart between him and Rick, Daryl isn’t ‘that’ relevant. People want this emotional encounter between Rick and Daryl then a hug from Carol

Romance with Single Mom and Biker?-UNR
Hi there! The book I'm looking for involves a (blonde?) single mother with a son who's not a baby but not fully grown either. Her ex husband/lover/father of her kid has partial custody. He's always put her down. The MC is either a biker or mechanic with a Daryl Dixon/Norman Reedus vibe to him. They meet by chance, and don't have a prior connection that I can recall. He's apprehensive because of her kid but persistent. This is a romance with smut and there is a scene with her...bent over the back of a car seat. That is all I can recall from it. I've had someone suggested Reaper's Legacy by Joanna Wylde already, but from the sample I read it doesn't seem to be it. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
Help?-UNR
Hi, I'm new here and to reddit in general. I don't know if anyone can help me, but I am looking for a specific book. I don't remember the title or character names. I've been searching for it on my own with no luck. It is romance and has smut in it.
So here's what I can remember: The fc is blonde (I think) and has a son (not a baby but not grown). Her ex and her are not on the best of terms as he's always put her down. The mc is a biker (I think, or at least mechanic). He gives off Norman Reedus/Daryl Dixon vibes. There is a scene with them in the back of a car...and that's all I got.
I had read it on my friend's kindle many years ago, and for whatever reason it's popped into my head and won't let me forget it. She doesn't have access to the account so she can't get in to tell me the title. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Who are your top 3 or 5 best actors in TWD?-UNR
For me, it has to be: 1. Andrew Lincoln 2. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (mostly season 7) 3. John Bernthal 4. Michael Rooker 5. Maybe Norman Reedus?
I know Shane and Merle weren't in the show as long as many actors, but they both absolutely killed their roles. When I think of season 2 I think of Shane, and Merle always stole your attention and time he's on screen.

Do you think if the Archangel Michael is brought in as a character in this show, Troy Baker would be a good pic to voice him?-UNR
He's voiced a few well known character. Joel Miller from The Last of Us. Joker in Arkham Origins and other Batman media. Grime from Amphibia. Loki in various Avengers cartoons and a bunch of other stuff. Recently he's become a recurring VA for Hideo Kojima games. He voiced Revolver Ocelot in MGSV and played the villains Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding and is set to reprise his role in 2025 sequel. Death Stranding 2 on the Beach. Troy has shown to be able to sing. He even sang BB's theme in the reveal trailer for DS2. I do wonder if Micheal would be Lucifer's twin brother in this universe, so would they get a new actor or just have Jeremy Jordan do a different voice for Michael.
I also wonder if they'd give an instrument or if that would be too much like Adam. And he had a guitar like Higgs does in DS2 if it would make him too much like dickmaster.
When Western Energy came out and we learned due to Norman Reedus' Walking Dead commitments and not DS2 (Which he likely did the mo-cap for awhile before recording or not who knows) and was replaced with series regular Ed Bosco. I suggested it would've been funny if they got Reedus' co-star from Death Stranding to voice him.
I just like Troy Baker and think he'd fit the Helluvaverse. Same with someone like Susan Egan.

Games with well-known actors ruin immersion-UNR
I'm looking mostly at you Death Stranding.
When I play a game, I want to project my own fursona onto the character. I want a customer characterization screen or just a plain ole dude throughout the experience. Not a triple-A actor from a movie or television show.
The worst moment in gaming for me personally was in the Silent Hill trailer when it revealed Norman Reedus face. I'm like, wait, that's the guy from Walking Dead. That kills it. I'm glad it never came out.
Then come to find out he's playing the lead in Death Stranding. I just can't. All I see is him.
This goes for any game that features a Triple-A celebrity. Why? Why would you ruin a persons gaming experience just to show you know cool people? It sucks.
