1,000 doomed, English-speaking warriors from across history are pulled together onto a new battlefield, and compelled to fight alongside each other against an obviously insurmountable foe. Within hours they will all be dead, all of them know this, and their morale is very low. Before the battle, one speaker can give a short (5 minutes or less) speech to raise their spirits, that they may make of these, their last hours, their finest. Who gives the most stirring speech?
Orators will be given an hour of prep with pencil, paper and the aid of a professional editor, a podium, a megaphone and a stirring accompaniment by John Williams conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Orators include but are NOT limited to:
Abraham Lincoln https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvA0J_2ZpIQ
Winston Churchill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkTw3_PmKtc
Patrick Henry https://www.awesomestories.com/asset/view/Patrick-Henry-Give-Me-Liberty-or-Give-Me-Death- (this is just the best clip I could find, Norman Reedus is not involved)
Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, son of Arathorn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA8wkz0uGLE
Bill Pullman as President Thomas J. Whitmore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVW3wCm3BLA
Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ7cX8MT0KE
Assume that each orator will write a brand new speech tailored to this specific situation, and historical figures will have the assistance of the editor if they wish to write in a more modern style. They are, however, free to write and deliver in whatever style they wish. All figures from history, from Shakespeare to Lady Gaga, and all fictional characters are able to compete.
