Eye contact and the 4th wall-UNR

I listened to Albert Chessas EXCELLENT deep dive analysis of trailer 4 today. He had a really interesting theory about how we may end up playing as Norman Reedus in an alternate reality within the game and Sam basically finding out he is nothing more than a video game character.

This would be totally 4th wall breaking and it got me thinking about another element I’ve seen a lot of in the trailers: the eye contact from the characters directly to the camera/player.

Pretty much every character we have seen so far has looked directly at the player, why do you think this is? Does it relate to us being Ludens? Will there be a clever gameplay mechanic that takes advantage of this?

I did have a (crazy) thought that Kojima would transfer some of the voice recognition stuff he did with PT, to include this is in some form within Death Stranding I.e. you could talk directly to a character and they would follow a command and respond in real time.

Any other thoughts guys?
