I have an almost complete theory :)-UNR

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

So to start i will explain what i think happened in the latest trailer, as evidence that my theory is logical (mostly) :).

What happened: Sam and his team were heading out to dispose of a corpse ("corpse disposal team" seen on their jackets) at some kind of gate to purgatory, (porter, on Sam's jacket, means guarder of a gate) where they're trying to hide bodies from Mads and from the monsters (embalmed corpse with symbolic gold on face to ward off monsters)

What happened in the Guillermo trailer: Executive figure at United cities of America is in a city being over run by Mads forces. Mads is seen watching the most recent  trailer that was released through his night vision goggles, and shows his other manifestation via the hand signal he gives, which i think was directed to the titan like monsters to 'go get Sam's team.'

So, for what makes up the main parts of my theory.

Definitive Aspects, meaning abnormal/divergent things we wouldn't expect to see in real life or most games. I will do my best to start simple and progressively get deeper into the theory as you read down the page.

(Now just a disclaimer, when i refer to purgatory I mean the water world we saw briefly in the 3rd trailer.)

Giant water monster- average purgatory monster

Timefall- man-made rain creation that accelerates life's growth rate.

Black goo stuff: purgatory leaking into our world

The 4th wall- almost non existent in this game, the game aims talks to you as the player, characters often look at you, babies seem aware of you, Mads seems aware of you, and Sam is literally you (to be explored further)

Players role- Ludens, Kojimas mascot, almost certainly is Norman Reedus, he looks very similar, and when we play the game, Reedus has stated that we don't play as him, we ARE him. We are homo ludens, an idea explored in other videos and literature, we take control of Reedus and IN the game someone or something is aware that your playing, and talks to you, not the character. So all players are represented collectively by Ludens, the mascot, and in a literal sense we are homo ludens, and Reedus is Ludens (the mascot, most likely).

Sound mechanics- Sam says "Shut up don't even breathe" yet his robot is making lots of noise, so it seems only organic sounds go through to purgatory but it seems that most other things can go through, like objects, clothing, people, fish, can pass through.

Death mechanics- being alive or dead for Reedus (you) doesn't matter, it's just different places. The creatures want your consciousness. Now for every NPC, they will die if eaten. Monsters can capture it while they're alive or dead, when they're dead they're consciousness is in their world. While they're alive it's in our world. The body is a vessel, you can leave it only if your in purgatory, but your still connected to it. If it's consumed so are you. Dead bodies are existent in both worlds. Alive ones not exactly, but there is some overlap (black goo footprints, sounds, black goo). Dead bodies must be protected from the monsters because the man attached to the dead body could still be in search of a new one. Once he finds a new one his consciousness is safe from the monsters in purgatory. (As clarification the lower two paragraphs above this sentence apply only to all characters in the game except Reedus and most likely Mads and the 5 floaters.)

Purgatory- A parallel universe where dead people's consciousness's go, where purgatory monsters, black goo people, and the 5 floating dudes come from. It being parallel is supported by when we see the bug things that Sam threw up, seemed to be walking on invisible swirly grass(seaweed), because they WERE, but in a parallel universe, the underwater purgatory world. Alive people show up in purgatory somewhat, but only via external "stimuli", they must be sensed, like making noise or possibly moving, they're not seen or physically there, and they have to die to bring their consciousness there. Reedus has a short amount of time to get stuff in purgatory (Kojima described it as a sort of continue world, witha question mark, where you can get stuff and start off where you died) because his body is disintegrating in our world, once that happens and the baby grows up he has to come back. Now concerning the thought that these monsters just want human flesh, if everyone's consciousness leaves their body in purgatory, (demonstrated by Reedus and the black goo people) eating it would serve no purpose if their consciousness wasn't in it. If the 5 big guys can come through why not the rest of them, where they can come here for a treasure trove of live meat. So via deduction you know that eating the body must suck your consciousness back to it, consuming it, which could explain why we saw the embalmed corpse shaking as if it was revived for a moment, the man could've left his body in purgatory in search of a new one, and the monsters found his body via a seal break in his embalming sarcophagus (because of the crash) and he was sorta ripped back to his body then consumed and dissolved by the monsters

Corpse Disposal Team- Team tasked with protecting corpses from being found by judgement day monsters, stranded souls, and average purgatory monsters, or being used as soldiers for Mads. He's got soldiers from the ww2 and ww1, every dead body is a new soldier for him to use against us.

Black goo people- stranded souls in purgatory trying to claim bodies that aren't there's, stranded souls that must claim a live body to return to our world.

Bagged Corpse- embalmed dead body that was thrown from the car in crash, damaged and consequently sucked out via the black goo (an overlap), by a monster, to purgatory.

Last Explosion- is the purgatory world breaking through to ours. The creatures all needed umbilicals to cross over into our world, until they broke through by consuming a live man in our world, supported by every time we've seen the creatures. Only problem is the 1st trailer, where we saw a naked Reedus seeing 5 floating guys without umbilicals and no crater. This I believe is the first time he experienced coming back to life via his internal baby, and seeing them a temporary side effect where he can see their world, perhaps also explaining why he didn't seem to shocked seeing them in the most recent trailer. A lot in the first trailer contradicts the 3rd so either there's been a rewrite or Kojima has gone beyond insane with the depth of this.

That last crater was created by that giant creature consuming a live man in our world, causing some kind of unraveling reality type thing, a black hole created by two things that should never collide. (Black hole also supported by words written on Mads gun in 1st trailer)

5 Floating Dudes: judgement day (I'll explain below) monsters who've crossed over from purgatory through the gate Sam was tasked with guarding. The 5 floater doodads can come to our world freely now via the event witnessed in the latest trailer, "the explosion that'd be our last," described by Sam. They created some kind of wormhole/black hole/ ripped apart space by consuming a live man in our world (black hole idea supported by the words on Mads gun and the visual appearance of the explosion, for a brief moment the center was black.) Before this event, they all had umbilicals to the ground, and after they're seen flying. When people breathe, because purgatory is a parallel dimension, (again, explored below) creatures can sense their breathing, because we're underwater in their dimension, it'd be like seeing bubbles in the air, you know they came from something. Also, these things can grab you with a wire, possibly a reference to umbilicals or maybe even "strands", the black lines ascending from the ground/ppl in many scenes, and also Mads character.

Reedus- Porter: a guarder of a gate to purgatory, special in that he can't die. He's Mads main enemy, he's looking for him, as demonstrated by him grabbing the fake baby with the hurt leg, and the sowed up stomach, and blue eyes. It looks like him. Perhaps because Sam has a baby inside of him the creatures can't kill the baby as well, the baby is "pure", it hasn't done anything yet, it hasn't sinned, hence the judgement day theme. So every time Sam dies in the real world he still has a link to our world because that baby remains alive inside him in BOTH worlds, he has a literal umbilical to our world, then shortly Sam's body crumbles quickly due to timefall, exposing and growing up the baby, a capsule for him to return to, assuring he's not a helpless baby because of Timefall

Babies- Babies serve as capsules for transferring human consciousness's into, and sorta like a sniffer for purgatory monsters. Babies seem aware of us the players as well, as seen in the baby opening his eyes in 2nd trailer, looking right at us. Now, a note, the babies we see are described as one and the same by Kojima. This I believe means the baby is a perfect clone, a perfect baby possibly without a consciousness. It is sealed off from the outside world to protect the baby from unwanted consciousness's, so the rightful owner can take the baby's body when he dies.

Mads- He can be in many places at once, but so far there's no evidence that he's ever in purgatory (at the same time as Reedus was briefly.) He can see out of players eyes as previously stated above, looking through the night vision goggles at the 3rd trailer, he's after Reedus, because only Reedus(you) can be in both worlds, no other humans can do that in the game. I believe Mads is an agent or just a manifestation of the 5 floaters, hence his disapproval at the man shooting the dying man, because their goal at that moment was to capture a live man in our world to break that barrier, that gate that Reedus was there to protect, create a black hole/ break space.

He seems to be looking at the big floating guys in the 1st trailer, Doesn't show any emotion at the sight of them.

Now in conclusion, The most confusing thing as of yet was when Reedus had his  baby outside of him. He cries and the baby disappears, and obviously enters the purgatory world. So the baby dies... but remains alive in purgatory, walking of his own accord, perhaps symbolic of Reedus leaving his body in purgatory.

This explains how we can see baby footprints on him in first trailer, that's him walking around, and perhaps because of timefall he shows up as a baby for some odd reason, in a tweet by Kojima we saw a recreation of the latest trailer and a baby took the place of the embalmed corpse, so it's likely that being dead leads to rebirth, and either it's symbolic or literal, I'm not sure. When he dies his physical body goes to purgatory, his body is dead here and there. His consciousness moves to his baby inside him, which is still part of his physical body in both worlds. Now, in our world, his dead body falls apart quickly due to timefall, and the baby grows up quickly, and then his time runs out and he returns to our world.

Now there is one question left: if Mads was in the city at the same time as he was with Sam's team via the floating caped dude, why can't he find a person in that city for the big guys to eat? I think that the only place they could come through is at the place where the crater happens, hence Reedus being there to guard the gate.

And finally, it is impossible to tell how Mads got to our world because there's no clues at all as to how, because it seems he was free even before the big 5 floating guys got through, and even still, Kojima wants us to keep guessing.

So that's my theory. I've spent several weeks thinking this through, time on Twitter, and watched several theory videos and read many comments to come up with this. If you have any problems with it I'd love to hear what you notice, and Kojima, if your reading this, your a very sneaky man. πŸ˜‹
