I have a feeling that this challenging title Kojima was talking about, could be a VR title.
With PSVR2 being officialy announced, he might be ready to "experiment" with some "next level" stuff .

After seeing the teaser for "HORIZON: Call Of The Mountain" I could very well imagine SONY wanting to bring DEATH STRANDING also to PSVR2 in some way.

This would also perfectly explain why Norman Reedus talked about a DEATH STRANDING sequel during an interview.

Kojima has also many times expressed his desire to work on a VR title one day.

Kojima himself hasn’t yet made any VR titles, though has often spoken about his fondness for the technology. In fact, he was a member of the jury for this month’s Venice VR festival.
“Being able to now create art, film, and games that don’t fit into this frame and the question of how to go about expressing this… I think that the next two to three years will be major for this medium in terms of how creators and artists will use it and what they will create.”
