Key Point: Multiplayer

Multiplayer: (a) factions, (b) Mads Mikkelsen, & (c) invading

(a) Fragile Hands, Bridges, and (maybe) Blackhole are "delivery" organizations when considering the dialogue on the fourth trailer when Lea Seydoux tries to recruit Norman Reedus "to work for her". Similar to Fallout, there may be factions that are competing within this world that start as deliveries but may lead to attacking settlements as seen when Reedus readies a weapon in front of an encampment.

(b) Mads Mikkelsen's character may represent the other player. Mikkelsen is the only character that stretches the "rope" mechanic that Kojima mentions. In the second trailer, Mikkelsen's "strands" glow red and pulsate rhythmically when pulling the baby doll and when controlling the skeleton soldiers. This could indicate that when players use their "strands/ropes" it will distinguish where/what/how the player wishes to interact with an object. In the sense of an "umbilical cord", it could 'feed life' into an inanimate object which could explain the organs and black tar spilling from the WWII-era tank. However, there is a limit to how far a "strand" could reach and as to why Mikkelsen had to disconnect from his soldiers (there may be a time-limit or a limited health once this is done).

(c) Invasion from other players could be a possibility. The scenery of 'deceased marine life washed up on shore' has been shown twice now, in the first and second trailer; most noticeably in the second trailer after the water rises on Guillermo Del Toro's feet. Referencing Silent Hill, the Cetacean Stranding phenomenon could be attributed to Reedus's own "Overworld" or "Purgatory" made into reality, or manifested onto this world by the DOOMS/Extinction Factor. This could be substantiated by WWII-era, war-torn Normandy in the second trailer when Mikkelsen appears at the end. Assuming that Reedus is the "Beaching Phenomenon" and Mikkelsen is "Normandy", that would explain how two players could interact/compete towards a certain objective by the use of "ropes" to bolster their arsenal. Again it circles back to factions/organizations against each other and why the beginning scene of crustaceans had "umbilical cords" but were dead/inanimate upon arriving at shore.
