I’m typically not one for convoluted plots but for some reason this game hits a weird tonal sweet spot for me where I’m hanging onto every word in the cut scenes. It’s the same with the Metal Gear games for me — how do you describe the cognitive effect of Hideo Kojima’s games, where they simultaneously are self-aware, self-serious, and aggressively ridiculous? I don’t like technobabble, I don’t like characters spouting exposition at each other (a miserable preference as a gamer), but I fucking love this weird ass game. My favorite thing so far is when Norman Reedus suddenly breaks the 4th wall so he can aggressively point at his toy soldiers. Fuckin genius.
