Higgs is the master of my nightmares-UNR

https://ift.tt/UpiCfxb

I played the scene last night where Higgs locks Sam into a loop of death and resurrection, and I swear it's terrifying. It just scrapes that part of my brain that just doesn't like the idea of immortality. Being immortal and unable to die is easily my greatest fear. Forget Freddie Krugar or Ghost face, Higgs is my greatest horror villain.

Imagine burning to death and just coming back each time to be immediately set alight again. God. And that bastard leering over you playing the song that your deceased father sang to you as a child. It's lucky the women saved Sam's hide. If not, it wouldn't be long before he is writhing in his own piss and shit. Eventually starvation and thirst would take over, making his body decompose and his mind deteriorated, whilst not allowing his consciousness to move on. Sam's best bet would be to stay in the Seam forever, where at least he is pain free, but the loneliness and isolation would eventually cause insanity and a shut down of the mind.

Other forms of fiction have played with this nightmareish idea. The Old Guard featured an immortal who is confined to a coffin at the bottom of the ocean, where she drowns repeatedly over decades. Or what about Black Mirror, where a guys consciousness is looped at the point where he dies on the electric chair. Just constant pain, unable to die. Another is Stephen Kings The Jaunt, with one poor kid stuck in the space between two teleportation devices, with nothing but his thoughts for millions of years.

It just makes me feel so squeamish. I didn't expect Death Stranding to make me feel that fear again. I just wanted to deliver parcels as Norman Reedus! Yeah thanks Kojima!

Anyway thanks for reading.
