Why I Walked Out of the Theater Disappointed-UNR

https://ift.tt/AvMxekQ

Just saw Ballerina yesterday. Here are my thoughts:

  • I didn’t even know Gabriel Byrne was in this, so I saw delighted to see him in the first scene.
  • The whole "take this gun with a single bullet, kill yourself or shoot me" part lacked something, it felt like writers wanted to put something that felt cool about the Bryne character but it didn’t work.
  • Young Winston looked somewhat weird but I don’t mind it at all.
  • "Don’t fight like a man, fight like a woman". When the director said this, it felt cool and I wondered what the writers will come up with. I thought maybe she’d use her hands like claws, but even that felt weak. And all they do is kick him in the balls? One last kick to assert dominance? Just no.
  • Wow, seeing the events of JW3 from another angle, I loved this.
  • Grenade scenes don’t make sense but they look cool. Wish we saw her training with grenades before though.
  • Norman Reedus is done for? I guess he was movie poster bait huh…
  • Charon is alive? When does this movie take place then? When we see John Wick for the first time, it was the scene from JW3. Then he went to Casablanca, walked the desert, got his finger cut. Got back to the Continental, basically revolted with Winston, then got shot and fell, found by Morpheus. Ballerina has to take place after JW3, after Wick gets healed back, but before the start of JW4 because the receptionist is alive. And during all this time Wick had a bounty on him, now he’s doing missions?
  • Wait the whole village has the same X mark? So Eve’s father also had one? Why wasn’t Eve’s first reaction to seeing the bad guy’s mark “Wait that’s the same mark as my dad’s!”
  • Keanu seems even more stiffer in this movie.
  • The Eve vs Wick was lacking, again. This was supposed to feel like seeing Darth Vader at the end of Rogue One. Didn’t feel as exciting at all. Though I will add, I was afraid for a moment Eve was going to kick JW in the balls and win.
  • So the whole village gets destroyed by Eve huh. The HQ of the people the Director and Winston keep telling they shouldn’t mess with? Hell, the director has how many ballerinas? Just send 4-5 and raze the place.
  • Flamethrower scenes looked cool at first but dragged on for too long. It felt like the director of the movie discovered a new toy and overplayed with it.
  • I liked that the Bryne character didn’t fight.
  • The blonde guy with the flamethrower had no charisma whatsoever. That guy should have been a bad guy that gets shot in 2 seconds. And I thought he was going to get burned by hot water drops in his face, but didn't happen.

Any way, if this wasn’t a John Wick movie, all people would say is that it was a cheap copy of John Wick. 4/10
