Basically, I think Its about time and space cracks within the universe caused by another big bang, thus we see the guy growing old and Norman Reedus being teleported, meaning time is cracked, and also dimensions are cracked which let's us go through them which looks like teleportation, bringing literally everything together, new, old and different.
Also, I think the kids are basically themselves, it's either they use the kids which is themselves to not be influenced by the black strings or it's just them and when the guy threw the kid he tried saving himself by giving Reedus the kid and killing himself before he was taken. Same thing with Reedus and the baby ( who had the cuts in the stomach ) and guelmo del Toro and the baby when the baby winked it was basically guelmo winking at us, time, dimension an technology , also the other trailers had ww2 weapons which prove the time theory also the planes. And in the beginning poem by William Blake in the second one says "and eternity in an hour" showing details in the trailers and also time ceasing to exist. Uhm.
