The nomenclature-to-visual (and/or thematic) synch-ups of Kojima’s titles keep coming.
Norman (Reedus) appearing on a beach was our first look at Death Stranding.
D-Day: Death Stranding Day, the inverse (but also applicable) of Birth Day, symbolising Hideo’s post-Konami rebirth, which is accentuated by Norman appearing naked in foetal pose (and the baby then appearing/disappearing too).
The landings themselves, though there were heavy casualties (over 4,000) laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western front — a parallel to how DS laid the foundation of Kojima’s successful separation from (and in my opinion, defeating of) Konami and their BS.
Then, in the game proper, Norman (Sam) encounters the beaches of other characters, such as Heartman.
It’s subtle, but it’s there.
Coincidence? Meaningless? Intentional?
You decide.
