(I didn't play this game myself but I'm fairly certain Markiplier did a playthrough of it on his channel. Since it was a horror game I only managed to get through the first couple videos so I don't remember much of the game)
Platform(s): not really sure, most likely PC Xbox and PS
Genre: sci-fi, horror
Estimated year of release: definitely not earlier than 2010
Graphics/art style: There was one scene in particular I remember specifically from the very beginning of the game(it might have acted as the title card?): You're being taken to your company's building/apartment complex(?) in a helicopter and as you're flying over the city you see either a name or maybe the title of the game written in huge bold letters on top of this one building.
Notable gameplay mechanics: I think every time you die you wake up in a hotel room or apartment your company set you up in and each time you leave the room things are a little bit different. For example the hallway outside your room might get more and more decrepit each time you return. You might also have to figure out a way to leave the hallway in an unconventional way to escape from the company for some reason?
Other details: You're sent through a series of tests by these scientists, maybe to see if you're a smart enough candidate for their experiments. As you do the tests you see this little blob of black goo (if I remember correctly it looked vaguely similar to the Venom symbiotes but completely black and maybe a third of the size) climb up onto the table where the scientists are working and it morphs into a perfect replica of a mug nearby. It then attacks the scientists, killing them, and runs off screen.
here's a clip I took of a YouTube video that briefly features your character waking up in the hotel room/apartment: https://youtube.com/clip/UgzwPyBMBe4EKcqL1CV4AaABCQ
I'm hoping the clip will be enough for people to remember what this game is called cause if memory serves this was actually kind of a popular game. it may or may not have had Norman Reedus in it but I might just be thinking that because Death Stranding also has black goo monsters.
