TLDR: Sweet dream about Fallout could also be a cool idea for a real world in person game in the future.
I was walking down a forested road in WV where I used to live. I looked over and saw a dinosaur looking sculpture made of scrap steel. Then I noticed more of different kinds.
Then I looked up and saw that Norman Reedus was sitting on a 3-story junk build. He hopped down and met us on the side of the road.
We looked over to the other side and saw the noodle stand bot Takahashi. We all looked at each other like "no way". There was a big E button on the bar. I hit the button and Takahashi handed me an amazing warm bowl of chewy delicious noodles.
As we finished up, Takahashi told us to dispose of our bowls in the compost. Not sure where that was, we wandered into the woods to look.
Past the dinosaurs and 3 story junk build, there was a dumpster visible in the distance. As we got closer the smell confirmed for us that, indeed, this must be the compost.
We passed a horseshoe pit and a segment of bus turned into a coffee bar on the way to the compost. After we disposed of our noodle bowls, we decided to see if the coffee was real, play some horseshoe and do some more exploring.
We all cram into the bus segment when this crazy dude in a raggedy vault suit comes running and screaming up the hill. He wants that coffee. Turns out the coffee is indeed real and quite delicious. Unfortunately, it only loads one cup at a time.
So, he blows the head off of the person standing next to me for that coffee. I reach down and pull out a pipe gun I didn't know I had. While we were having a shoot out over the coffee, the person next to me reloaded.
Here's the really cool part. Apparently, their head was never actually shot off. It was an illusion. There were cameras and projectors everywhere.
The cameras mapped your every move in the live Fallout game areas so that when someone "shot" a limb off, a 3D projection of that limb would appear to fly off of your body while an overlay projection of the surrounding environment was cast on the limb that just got "shot off" to make it look like it wasn't there.
So, the person who dies doesn't actually die, they are just standing there seemingly invisible while a projected version of themselves lies dead on the ground as they wait to be visibly reset in the game.
The guns also don't shoot actual projectiles. It just looks like they do because a sensor in the trigger tells the projectors to project whatever ammunition comes from that weapon.
There were live Fallout game areas hidden all around the state for people to find. So you would be wandering around and find yourself in a harmless, but very immersive game of Fallout in the middle of nowhere. It was a blast.
I think this dream I had is a great idea for an actual game in the future when the tech to pull it off is more readily available. What do you think?
