For as long as I can remember, a good music video has touched a part of my soul that nothing else can. I've collected them across all genres and levels of fame, but definitely have a fondness for animated ones. I appreciate them as decorating both space & time, and felt compelled to share some of them with others that may appreciate them too.
The Masterpieces:
- "Fly for your Life" by Gunship. Love and / is war.
- "SORRY NOT SORRY" by Tyler, the Creator. Get on stage, bare your soul, bury the past, fuck 'em.
- "NEVER GIVE UP" by S+C+A+R+R. This video is just so damn well-produced and clean.
No specific Category, just Fun:
- "Turn Down for What" by DJ Snake, Lil Jon. How do you do, fellow millennials?
- "SICK OF BEING HONEST" by MILKBLOOD. An eldritch monster stalks the halls of a Russian apartment building. It yearns to dance.
- "DISCO CLOSURE" by MILKBLOOD. Your sleep paralysis demon has terrifying moves. (I'm biased I like these guys. Watch this video for kawaii monster.)
- "Time in a Tree" by Raleigh Ritchie. We're all looking for our time in a tree, in some way or another. (Raleigh Ritchie is the stage name of Jacob Anderson, who played Grey Worm on Game of Thrones, and Louis in Interview with the Vampire).
- "Lover Chanting" by Little Dragon. I think all of us have some fond memories of an game like this.
- "I Feel Better" by Hot Chip. I'm certain there's some deeper meaning to this music video, but I dare you to attempt finding it.
- "Pop Culture" by Madeon, edited by Chris Taylor. Madeon mixed a great song together using samples of other significant music, and Chris Taylor composited all of the music videos for those songs into a satisfying video.
- "Wild Side (Anime Ver)" by ALI. This is the intro to Beastars, and regardless of how you feel about anime, this is impressive stop-motion cloth animation.
- "Fear & Delight" by The Correspondents. A catchy tune with clever camera work to make 3D zoetropes.
- "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. What if Star Trek was significantly more Glam Rock?
- "Solid Gold feat. Kira Divine & Marques Toliver" by PNAU. A golden kaleidoscope.
- "Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)" by Elton John, Dua Lipa. Ok the figurines might be a little creepy, but this is still a fun music video.
- "Don't Wanna Fight" by Alabama Shakes. Every day is a different struggle.
- "Loretta" by Ginger Root. When you have to do everything yourself.
- "Move in the Right Direction" by Gossip. A rare kinetic-typography music video.
Animated (2D or 3D):
- "C2C" by Delta. Change is terrifying. Change is unstoppable. But it can be beautiful.
- "Fever the Ghost" by SOURCE. Felix Colgrave animated this wonderfully.
- "Starlight Brigade" by TWRP. Vibrance versus desaturation.
- "Lost River" by Murder By Death. Hush, now creature.
- "Beautiful" by Seeed. You wouldn't know it, but this is a German Reggae band.
- "Sing Along" by Sturgill Simpson. What if Mad Max fought Lust and Greed? And both this song & video have an immediate follow-up.
- "Lone Digger" by Caravan Palace. We're just urban animals.
- "Mr. FEAR" by SIAMÉS. You could any SIAMÉS music video in this section, but Mr. FEAR is my favorite.
- "Bye Bye Macadam" by Rone. There's a feeling of calm infinity in this video.
- NSFW • "Full Bodied (feat. AL!CE)" by Ghost Data, animated by Moikaloop. You're going to need to dab the sweat from your brow after this.
Melancholic:
- "The Curse of the Blackened Eye" by Orville Peck. Trauma, depression, guilt, pain- we all carry something. Sometimes it's Norman Reedus.
- "Boy & Bear" by Pogo. Winnie the Pooh doesn't have to grow up. But we do.
- "On my Way Out ft. Joji" by Getter. Looking different also means looking unique.
Dancing:
- "Forever (Pt. II)" by Snakehips. This video and the one below feature the (former) dance couple AyaBambi performing Vogue dancing.
- "Show Me" by DJ Zinc. This one has a twist.
- "The Rest Of My Days" by S+C+A+R+R. Another clean video from S+C+A+R+R.
- "Call Your Girlfriend" by Robyn. It's time you had the talk.
- "APOLLO" by Last Dinosaurs. I'm sure we've all danced without reserve when we're alone.
- "still feel." by half•alive. Pretty sure this was filmed in the Nolan Batcave.
- "Genghis Khan" by Miike Snow. What if Bond was chasing the villain... figuratively?
- "Bass Inside" by AC Slater. Assemble the team. Feel the bass inside.
- "Back on 74" by Jungle. I could post every Jungle music video in this section. If you like well-choreographed dancing music videos, just go through their catalog.
- "Casio" by Jungle. I wasn't joking.
- "Tokyo Calling" by ATARASHII GAKKO! A different kind of sailor scouts.
- "Cameo Lover" by Kimbra. This one is just charming.
Salvatore Ganacci- this guy gets his own section. You'll see why:
- "Fight Dirty." If you like any sort of anime, you'll appreciate this.
- "Horse." Our intrepid hero hears the call of animals in need, and rushes to save them in his Shoemobile.
- "Step-Grandma." This video will demonstrate how to get your very own step-grandma.
- NSFW • "Ass & Titties." with Tommy Cash. Nothing will prepare you for this one. You'll like it though.
The Weird Shit:
- "VERY NOISE" by IGORRR. This music video is a memetic virus that I am blessed/cursed to spread. Also I am not joking when I say this is probably IGORRR's most 'normal' music.
- "RACKED" by TOMMY CASH. This is one of those music videos that you watch once, think it's absurd... and replay it in your head for weeks after.
- "Deep Down Low" by Valentino Khan. The drugs are starting to kick in.
- "UH OH! (feat. BENEE)" by Sub Urban. The Missionary has targeted you. Resistance is futile.
- "Gay Bar" by Electric Six. Abe Lincoln poles dances in this video.
- "Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six. I'm biased, I love these guys.
- NSFW • "Fantasy" by DyE. Four teenagers sneak into a pool. They encounter indescribable horrors.
Mashups:
- "I did (not) mean to blow your mind." by Camhcom. Tenacious D x Evangelion. It's better than you think.
I'll post more if I can find them.
EDIT:
- "Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin. Put a smile on that face.
- "Go With The Flow" by Queens Of The Stone Age. This song is about conception.
- "Komm, süsser Tod (from Neon Genesis Evangelion)" by Platina Jazz. I wish, that I could turn back time...
- "Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver" by Primus. Imagine if animatronic cowboys sang a dirty song about lady parts.
