Many fans have been hoping that Ghost Rider could get his own film or show ever since he appeared in Agents of Shield, and with the news of a possible Blade project in the works as well as Deadpool 3 maintaining an R rating, some believe a movie is on the horizon. Norman Reedus even wants to play him. Unfortunately, there is close to no chance of Disney/Marvel Studios releasing a new Ghost Rider solo movie.
This is because of China’s ban on any films which include ghosts and other supernatural creatures. That’s why Ghostbusters 2016 wasn’t allowed to be shown in China (which caused it to be considered s box office failure). Blockbusters are catered to Chinese audiences now because they spend the most on movies overall. Every Marvel film has been shown in China, and Disney has taken steps to self censor already; the Ancient One isn’t from Tibet in Doctor Strange for this reason. So there’s no way a movie called Ghost Rider would pass through the Chinese censors. He could appear as a side character in a Blade or Midnight Sons movie, but he could never be referred to as “Ghost Rider.” The best bet would be him getting a series on Netflix or Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
