Hello,
I finished my Nightwing and Batgirl screenplay just a month before DC announced the Nightwing movie. I figured I would post the outline of the script and if anyone is interested you can go to fanfictionnet, and read the whole thing. I have also cast the screenplay as well, which I have placed at the bottom of the post.
Nightwing and Batgirl: Year One
• Open on a bank robbery occurring one evening with Killer Moth and his men. They are about to leave when Nightwing fights them off; he tries to stop Killer Moth but he escapes. During the escape Nightwing tries again to stop Killer Moth again by throwing a batarang but instead hits one of his men killing him.
• Barbara Gordon is at home watching old surveillance footage of Batman fighting criminals. She tries to reenact his fight moves and goes into her own at home training session. Something is bothering Barbara and she appears depressed. After she is done, she takes a shower and picks up a razor blade.
• Back at the Batcave, Grayson is visibly upset about what happened. Bruce says he will talk to Commissioner Yindel about the incident.
• Barbara in a hospital bed eating breakfast. Dr. Edward Nashton (Riddler), comes in to talk to her about her suicide attempt. He says he wants to see her on a regular basis. Because she shouldn’t be living alone Bruce Wayne has decided to let her move into Wayne Manor.
• Killer Moth drops by his boss’s office, Dr. Edward Nashton, to give him the robbery money. Edward alludes to a sinister plan he has for the money.
• Bruce does his best to coax Barbara from staying in her room and invites her to a charity ball. At the ball Bruce and Barbara argue about her being a part of his team. While there Killer Moth shows up with men and kidnap Bruce. Barbara follows them in her car; she crashes into Killer Moth’s cycle and van. Before Killer Moth can grab Barbara, Nightwing disarms him before the police arrive. Bruce is angry with Barbara, but she is proud of what she did.
• Killer is visited in Arkham by Edward, who explains to him, his services are no longer needed and it will be his turn to have fun with Gotham.
• Barbara has her first therapy session with Edward. She recounts the home invasion that got her mother killed and how guilty she feels about it. Edward prescribes her valium to help her sleep at night.
• When Grayson wakes up one morning and Bruce is nowhere to be found. When Barbara hears the news she leaves Wayne Manor and goes back home.
• Barbara goes to the police station to grab some of her father’s stuff. While there she finds a way to connect to the server.
• A body has been found in a public area with a note attached, warning what is to come in Gotham. Commissioner Yindel and Officer Montoya are concerned about what is to come to their city.
• Barbara has been suffering from weird side effects from her medication, but Edward assures her they will pass. They begin to become more comfortable with each other.
• Yindel informs Nightwing about the murders occurring in the city and the possibility of a serial killer.
• Edward kills a drunk man in the street, with his cane because he doesn’t answers his riddles correctly.
• A special newspaper is delivered throughout the city informing people of money hidden in certain locations around the city. This causes mass chaos throughout; one of the locations for the money is Gotham library, where Barbara works.
• That same day an event is being held at Gotham Museum. Edward is attending along with other wealthy people. While there Edward sneaks into an employee only area to steal something and then set up bomb.
• Nightwing finds a clue in the newspaper telling him to go to the museum. He warns the police; Yindel and Montoya head that way.
• After chaos breaks out at the library Barbara escapes. She is almost shot by someone by Alfred saves her. They head back home and watch what is happening on the news. Barbara gets on her laptop and hacks into the museums surveillance footage. She is able to see the bomb and warns Nightwing to get everyone out. Everyone makes their way out safely.
• Barbara is upset about the events of today and goes to Edward’s house to talk to him. He is able to calm her down. He puts her in the path about taking back control of her fear and fight back.
• Yindel question Edward about what happened at the museum. She finds out the man she shot was one of Edward’s patients. She voices her concerns but he assures her he is on her side.
• After a night of work of the library, Barbara goes to a drug dealers’ house looking for a fight. She does well but Nightwing interferes just before the cops arrive.
• The next day Grayson attends to her wounds from the night before. They begin to become closer with each other, but Grayson refuses to let Barbara be a part of the team because he knows Bruce doesn’t want it.
• Edward decides to increase Barbara’s valium dosage. They begin to have a moment and kiss each other. They both realizes what they did was wrong and decide to forget about it.
• While Batgirl is out at night, Nightwing knocks her out. Batgirl wakes up in the batcave; Nightwing asks her why she wants to be Batgirl. He thinks she can do better with her answer and knocks her out again.
• After a charity ball hosted by Edward, Grayson takes Barbara to the abandoned circus tent, where his parents were killed. He tells her that she will find closure for her mother’s death. They swing a bit on the apparatus and share a kiss.
• Nightwing notices on surveillance some strange activity at the docks. When he arrives at the docks, he sees what appears to be a giant maze. He enters and is brought through a series of traps for him to escape from. He tries to rescue the man in the last room, but the floor collapses underneath them. They both fall into the water, but because of a storm, Nightwing is unable to rescue the man. Back on land Nightwing thinks he sees the Riddler and fires a Taser gun at him. The figure explodes and he realizes it was a decoy. A warehouse is set on fire from the explosion and NIghtwing is unable to save everyone else inside.
• Grayson goes to Barbara’s house afterwards and breaks down. Barbara lets him stay the night. In the middle of the night Barbara becomes extremely paranoid because of her medication and Grayson has to calm her down
• After hearing about the incident on the docks, Yindel decides she no longer wants Nightwing to be a part of the case and blocks him from the police database.
• Grayson knows in order to get back in he needs Barbara and decides to recruit her.
• Grayson continues to see Barbara’s medication as a problem. She agrees to stop taking for a while and Grayson asks Alfred to test the medication to find out what is in it.
• Grayson has Barbara go through intense training sessions before he feels she is ready to go out in the city again.
• On New Year’s Eve, Riddler has sent out a message warning of a potential threat in downtown Gotham during the celebration. PD, Nightwing and Batgirl stake out downtown and wait to see what happens. After midnight fireworks go off and let out toxic gas. People are trying to flee the area. Cops clear out as many as they can and Nightwing and Batgirl save the people left behind. While rescuing people batgirl thinks she sees riddler and goes after him. Nightwing tries to stop her but is arrested by Yindel. Batgirl is unable to catch riddler and is stopped by Montoya. Yindel agrees not to arrest them for their help, but still wants them to stay away from the investigation.
• The results come back about Barbara’s valium. She realizes that Edward can’t be trusted and she needs to stay away from him.
• Edward confronts her at work because he hasn’t heard from her. She tells him to stay away from her or she will call the police. He explains he has the upper hand and tells her if she calls the police he will tell them she is a drug abuser, who needs to be committed.
• Yindel is abducted by riddler and is set in a trap. She thinks she will be freed after answering riddles, but riddler dumps her down the sewer. Yindel survives and is taken to the hospital.
• Grayson decides that he and Barbara need to find who is helping riddler with his plans around the city. They decide to go to the docks because two incidents happened there. Nightwing lets Batgirl take the lead and shake up the men for information. They tell her the only one to see his face was Killer Moth.
• Nightwing and Batgirl break into Arkham to question Killer Moth. While there riddler releases the patients in that wing, and they all fight Nighwing and Batgirl. Killer moth has now been turned into Charaxes and begins killing patients. Batgirl tries to unlock the door to get out, while Nightwing fights Charaxes. Batgirl helps and they lock Charaxes in a room. While escaping the two are separated. Nightwing is attacked Riddler; Batgirl finds Nighwing unconscious and brings him back to the batcave.
• While Grayson is recuperating, Barbara goes into the police database. She see the toxicology report from the gas at New Year’s Eve. It matches her medication; she realizes Edward is Riddler and rushes out of the batcave.
• Later, when Grayson finds Barbara, she is on the floor of her house with her pill bottle next to her.
• At the hospital, the doctors tell Grayson that Barbara will be under the care of her psychiatrist. Grayson is furious and is asked to leave the hospital before security is called
• Barbara is awake in her bed and Nightwing sneaks in through her window. He tells her that she needs to stay at the hospital to get more evidence on Edward. Barbara is afraid but agrees.
• Later while eating her meal, she realizes her drink has been drugged. She wakes up in the basement of the hospital with Edward standing over her. He tells her how decided to become riddler and burns a question mark into her back. She attacks him and escapes. She finds commissioner Yindel’s hospital room and gives her the recording she has of Edward’s confession.
• Police swarm Edwards office and apartment; a bomb goes off at his office. Montoya is at his apartment and sees a note addressed to her. She quickly leaves.
• At the batcave Barbara has received a letter from Edward telling her and Grayson to go to Wayne enterprises. • Montoya arrives at Wayne enterprises first and is attacked by Riddler.
• Nightwing and Batgirl arrive next and go off into separate rooms, given to them by Riddler. Nightwing is locked inside his room with gas. Batgirl is in a conference room with dummies in the chairs, covered by sheets. The last one is moving; she takes of the sheet and it’s Bruce. He has been held by the riddler the whole time. Nightwing escapes his room and saves Montoya in the process. A clue is left for them to head back to the batcave.
• Bruce, batgirl and Nightwing split up in the batcave and search for Edward. Edward attacks Batgirl but she fights back. She has the upper hand and brands him with a bat on his forehead. Nightwing and Bruce almost kill Edward but batgirl stops them. Edward reveals he has placed a bomb in the batcave and locked all the doors. He lets batgirl leave at gun point. She is distraught about leaving Bruce and Nightwing behind. She makes her way to ground level and sees question marks on the trees. She follows them back into another entrance into the batcave. It leads her underneath the bomb. She is able to stop the bomb in time.
• They bring Edward to PD alive, but he threatens to reveal their identities.
• At trial Edward doesn’t do it and pleads guilty. Epilogue
• 3 months later commissioner Gordon comes back to his job after going through his cancer treatment. He accepts batgirl as a new partner to batman.
• Batman and Nightwing work together to stop a criminal, via car chase.
