I think this quote is talking about game mechanics.
Things like:
No hud
Having to balance the things you carry as you walk
Can actually get carried away by water, and can actually fall or trip
Worrying about boot degradation
Maybe Sam tires out after a while walking
A button to cover Sam's/Norman's mouth
Really immersive animations, dialogue while walking if you reach something cool or weird
At the start of the game, you AND Norman/Sam will have no idea what's going on, and you both learn the story at the same time (just a guess)
No death screens, which has been confirmed.......... No main menu?? Nor pause menu?? That would be pretty cool. No fourth wall breaks like that.
Some kind of indicator when enemies are nearby that relates to Sam's Chiral Allergy
