This is just a speculation and I don't wan't to get your hopes up for nothing, I'm just going to share some similarities. If you have no idea who Junji Ito is, why some of us thinks he may be involved, how he might influence Death Stranding or if you need to refresh your memory I suggest you should start reading the post below.

Since the announcement of Death Stranding fans are finding artistic connections, although he was never confirmed officially for Death Stranding.
- Kojima met Junji Ito for Silent Hills at June 2013 but the collaboration announced by Guillermo del Toro at September 2015, 5 months after the cancellation.
- Both Junji Ito and Guillermo del Toro had visited Kojima Productions.
- . A week ago, as Official Junji Ito page retweeted; Guillermo del Toro visited Kojima Productions and hours later IGN posted something interesting.
- A day later Junji Ito liked a fan art on twitter and the day afterwards Guillermo del Toro met with Junji Ito. None of them lose touch ever since, in fact they are pretty close. They met each other seperately though, three of them never came together so far.
Considering Junji Ito was possibly on board as the Art Director for Silent Hills, seeing how Death Stranding shared artistic similarities with PT could mean he is influencing Death Stranding at some level but Kojima already said Death Stranding will be an action game (even though it will be a new genre on its own) but at this point, we can't deny the horror graphics and scary ambience present at Death Stranding. In fact Death Stranding fits the definition of survival horror game perfectly:
- game tries to frighten players with either horror graphics or scary ambience
- although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games
- game make use of strong horror themes, like dark maze-like environments and unexpected attacks from enemies.
I don't know about you but I'm happy to see how they are still in contact. Whether there is a secret collaboration that we will never know until the end of credits or just few inspirations and advice on art/character design, I would like to see their names on Death Stranding's credits (even its under 'Special Thanks'). Besides unfortunate attempt to create something under Konami, considering Kojima is well-funded now and given the complete creative freedom on this project, there's no reason why they wouldn't help each other.
