Correlations between all the trailers-UNR

Utilizing the power of the internet is awesome.

So I tried lining up the trailers starting from the sweeping shot and letting it play from there. I know that lining up the previous two trailers yields an interesting hypothesis that the baby "travels" from two dimensions, and that hypothesis may be further supported. I want to quickly break down what literally happens between all three trailers, and what happens thematically. Skip around to whatever part you want to read.

Thematically/ TL:DR

TL:DR

Baby moves through different trailer dimensions. Each dimension looks similar in landscape but at different timelines. Characters that affect one dimension has ramifications in subsequent dimensions. Look at Mads Mikkelson's character/ silhouette gesturing at the same time in two of the trailers at exactly the same time. Resulting in some sort of reaction; water rises to Reedus' feet and tries to engulf the guy trying to kill himself, and presumably Guillermo's character being in danger because of the soldiers in the same tunnel. The hands are also persistent in showing up when something happens in one of the three trailers. Kojima is possibly playing with the idea of the butterfly effect across different dimensions and possibly as a means of gameplay for the player to experience. If there is a multiplayer aspect to Death Stranding, players on their version of Death Stranding may very well affect the version that you are playing. All just interesting things to theorize.

Thematic meaning

It's no mere coincidence that the baby "travels" between each universe presented in the trailer. These trailers may very well be parallel dimensions that happen to coincide with one another. Notice how when an apparent "danger" appears, the baby shows up in a different dimension. Starting from the first trailer released to the most recent trailer.

Each trailer is also themed differently with the E3 2016 Trailer being related to** life or the birth of life. The TGA 2017 Trailer represents **death, with two of the disposal crew members dying. The TGA 2016 Trailer can also correlate to the unknown and even the fear of the unknown.

In the E3 and TGA 2017 trailers, all characters are knowledgeable about something in those dimensions/ universes. They know not to breathe when the invisible creatures are around, or the fact that dying is more valuable than being captured alive by the creatures. Reedus has some attachment or knowledge of the baby he cries over. On the other hand, Guillermo's character is fearful, he visibly gasps at the offscreen terror. The trailer featuring him is full of unknown or contradicting factor (all the trailers are pretty confusing to be frank); tanks with flesh or meat. Modern weaponry next to WW2 era weaponry. Umbilical like connections to all that is living (or dead). All themes that seem to differ from one another.

The water is also an interesting portion of the trailers. Starting from E3 2016, the sand looks wet, and the sea animals are all washed up into shore. This could indicate water receding, like before a wave. Water then presumably "floods" TGA 2016 trailer then, like a cup overflowing with water reaches our most recent trailer swallowing up all it can. Water and its true depths are relatively unknown in our actual world, I think we only explored like 3% of the actual ocean but has both purpose in life and death. In life, represented as a mother's womb, a container of water for the life of a child. In death, as a drowning it is the complete encapsulation of water as a replacement for air. When drowning water surrounds you, it contains your body (lungs and all) and chokes you to death. Both are heavily implied in the trailers.

Water obviously plays a huge role in Death Stranding, and theorizing what kind of upside-down esque world this could and its gameplay ramifications is the fun part.

Going back to death and rebirth, death may be represented by the hands marked on Reedus' body. It could also be looked at how many people we affect in our lifetime, and the burden of those interactions.

The color red also shows up briefly; under the floating baby doll and the blood on the sand under Reedus' foot. It's intentional, the palette of the all the trailers is fairly muted, even the guy crushed by the cruiser/ truck shows blood that isn't as bright as Reedus' blood. I won't go too much further on all the themes for time's sake and your sanity so moving on.

Noticeable moments in the synced trailers

For brevities sake each trailer will be classified as:

E3 2016 Reveal Trailer; Trailer A

TGA 2016 Trailer; Trailer B

TGA 2017 Trailer; Trailer C

Correlated Actions

Starting from the sweeping shot; all three trailers show what would seem to be somewhat similar landscapes. (Notice the sand in all three trailers with varying degrees of vegetation.)

At roughly the 0:33 timecode, shown at the bottom overlay player:

Crabs are seen in trailers A and B. Trailer C shows Norman Reedus' glove which also has a similar texture and silhouette to the crabs. Also note the black string under the crabs and under Reedus' knee.

At 0:46

Guillermo Del Toro (GDT) footprints in Trailer B leave impressions as do the hands in Trailer A.

At 0:57

Both GDT and Reedus turn their heads at roughly the same time.

At 1:18

All trailers show a figure clutching onto someone. Trailer C: Man trying to save his friend. Trailer B: GDT with the container unit. Trailer A: Reedus and baby.

1:32

Trailer B shows the tank rolling across the bridge at the same time the man in Trailer C says, "They're here."

1:40

In trailer A, Reedus' hands are black. Trailer C shows the man stuck under the vehicle to rapidly age. Trailer B the tank drops the weird looking meat sack.

2:02

Water rises Trailer B, Hands show up Trailer C.

2:44

Trailer B, GDT turns into the tunnel as the corpse in Trailer C spazzes out

3:11

Red glows under baby doll in Trailer B, as Trailer C shows the red glow under Reedus' foot.

3:37

Weapons are visibly shown as a main focal point in Trailer B and C.

4:00

Silhouette and Mads Mikkelsen gestures at the same time.

4:11

Sweeping water shot in Trailer B, followed up by cruiser truck sinking in Trailer C.

4:23

Trailer B, baby doll floats to Mikkelsen's feet while Trailer C, black tar figures grab man's leg.

4:42

Trailer B, doll's eye snaps open immediately followed by Trailer's C, failed suicide attempt.

4:48

Death Stranding on Trailer B, as guy tries to kill himself unsuccessfully in Trailer C (lol)

No doubt I probably missed some stuff, but just wanted to throw in some findings from the trailers all synced together.
